Maybe I'm the last to see this since it has apparently been on Youtube since last fall. But I looked and didn't see it here under the video or pest control tags. Just posting because it couldn't be cuter. (If it's a repeat, I'll delete)
I saw this on Universal Hub yesterday, and apparently it was on a bunch of TV news shows too. Not sure why it's suddenly getting all the attention this week when it was made back in October.
If you view the video's page on youtube, next to the counter showing the number of views is a little icon of a graph. Click that, and you get a graph showing the # views over time, with annotations showing milestones such as the date when the page received its first referral from a given domain, or the date that the video was first embedded on a given domain.
Sometimes a milestone will signal a spike in traffic. Hint: the milestones are always placed, graphically, a bit later than their actual datetime. You'll see when you check this one.
The only clue to the recent spike in the last 36 hours, from 500 views to > 1000 views, is the UHub embed yesterday. So say you hadn't known about the UHub post previously - it would give you a starting point to look, and perhaps ask that person how this video came to their attention.
I also posted the video on the Somerville311 Facebook page and I saw that a lot of people shared it or re-posted it. I'm sure that also helped it as well.
On the Somerville311 page, I see you also linked to this news clip on channel 7. http://www1.whdh.com/news/articles/local/12003845946888/somerville-officials-create-ad-to-help-prevent-rats/
That article is posted on 7's site around 11 PM on Monday night; maybe it aired on Monday's evening news. The article does not link to the original youtube vid and none of the comments do either, but in the hour after the article was posted, this person (http://twitter.com/BostonWeddingJP) tweets (http://twitter.com/BostonWeddingJP/status/50026324961673216) about the original youtube vid, which the admin on UHub quickly re-posts (http://www.universalhub.com/2011/rats-how-did-somerville-video-get-passed-oscar-tim), attributing it to the tweet.
I guess the rise in views over the last two days can be traced to 7's coverage on Monday, since this led to you posting it on facebook yesterday, and might have led to the tweet that was picked up by UHub. So far the vid has gone from 500 views in the first six months to 900 additional views in the last two days.
It looked like at one point near the end they were filming on Hall Ave. Now I'm feeling a little better about moving out as now I won't be attacked by 6-foot tall rats, or for you Princess Bride fans, rodents of unusual size :)
Jimmy Del Ponte, one of those 6-foot rats, lives on Hall Avenue. I can't remember if he has an LJ account.. He's rrcrossing but I haven't seen him around here in a long time. He introduced himself here.

If you were that interested, that is.
