MTA maps covered?

Does anyone know why the T-maps that are on the walls of T-stations (At least Davis, Porter and Harvard) are all covered with white plastic? Likewise, at least the cars I was in yesterday had no full maps on the walls.

Are they preparing to replace the maps with one that includes the hypothetical green-line expansion?

It's a different commuter rail right of way. the one in porter goes to fitchburg while the new green line (if it ever happens), follows the route toward lowell. I'm sure both commuter rails share the right of way nearer north station, but the extension plan goes way past Porter (at least in theory).

It would certainly be nice if they extended it further to connect to Alewife (if the dreams of getting it all the way to route 16 happen, which seems unlikely)

The map I saw has the main line going up Lowell line to Tufts, but a branch sneaks over to the Fitchburg line up to Union Square.
