Today I went to the showroom for my local fireplace store to schedule a chimney sweep (Buchanan Fireplace in Medford) and there was a sign on the door that they have closed permanently. Calling their number confirmed this sad fact, and their website's gone.
Thus, I need a trustworthy chimney sweep. I have a woodstove insert, and have never had it swept since I bought the insert, so I don't know what is involved. All I know is that the woodstove flue is overdue for a cleaning. Are there any local tradespeople recommended by this group? I did a search, and the "home services" tag seems to be the most relevant, but I didn't find anything obvious about chimney sweeps.

Date: 2014-01-07 12:46 pm (UTC)The process is exceptionally tidy. The actual sweep has always been really polite, knowledgeable and generally nice (not always the case with other home repair services). He shows you a video of your flue, etc. On the initial call to set up our very first appointment, they were recommending we clean twice a year for our level of burning (also a wood stove). When they saw the condition of our flue (high efficiency wood stove, metal chimney v. mortar), they dropped down to once a year. So honest folks - get my vote every time - and our business - we are on an annual schedule with them (but we do it in the off season to save alittle dough).
Good luck.
