I know this question gets asked a lot and I apologize.

I am in need of a new doctor/PCP. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good doctor or a place fulla good doctors?

Cambridge Family Health is not accepting new patients (which sucks as I live quite close to there and my GF likes it there). And I had an irritating experience with the Marino Health Center or whatever it's called--so those places are out.

Ideally, it would be near Davis, Porter or Central Squares, but anywhere Red Line-able is fine. The one big need is I need an appt within 3 weeks to get shots for an upcoming last-minute trip. My health care lets me see whatever dr I want so that's not an issue.

Thanks

Dr. Linda Powers at Mount Auburn Primary Care Center
Phone: (617) 499-5055

Amy Hayes, a family nurse practitioner there, is also awesome and usually has fast openings.

Mount Auburn also has a travel health clinic, if you (OP) needs specialized vaccinations.

Hey Linda Powers is my PCP too. She's nice. Sometimes too quick to prescribe but overall really helpful and human (and she returns phone calls!).

i haven't found her too quick to prescribe things, but i also haven't needed much prescribed, so. she appeals to me because she takes the time to sit down and listen to what's going on, even when my appointment is just supposed to be a quick thing.

Cool. How old is she? Do you happen to know if she keeps up with new research or is at all familiar with breastfeeding? My current doctor (also affilated with Mt. Auburn) looks slightly embarassed when I ask him whether something he's prescribing is compatible with breast feeding and certainly doesn't know the answer.

Amy Hayes (the FNP) should have openings. you'd need to list a resident as your primary care doc, but could then see Amy. she's as good as Dr. Powers :)

She's my doctor as well, and I really like her. I've seen a few of the NPs as well, when I made same-day appointments, and they're also great.

Cambridge Hospital in Inman Sq area, you can take the 83 there or walk from Harvard or Central, it's even walkable from Porter on a nice day.

I have had good experiences with everyone at Riverside Health Center (I think that's what it's called...Riverside Community Health?) on River St. in Central Square. Dr. Karanja is great and there is also a nurse practitioner named Annie who is wonderful. I have always been able to get in there fast.

Some of my friends and I have also had awful experiences
with the billing and administrative departments of Cambridge Family Health
/ Cambridge Health Alliance, so I would try and avoid them on that basis alone.

not quite on charter as answers go...

if you need last-minute shots for travel, the caritas/st elizabeth's in allston/brighton has a travel clinic that saw me on pretty much no notice a few months back.

Arlington Family Practice is fantastic. it's accessible by the 77 bus line from porter or harvard, and they have a fantastic office. they're really into listening to their patients and hearing what they think the problem is before giving you a diagnosis. my first appointment, the dr i saw was like, "who knows your body better than you? we need your input." so i was super excited about that, because in the past, drs have just been like, "heres your pills, bye!"

they're also pretty awesome about getting you an appointment like, the next day.

and they're a big teaching practice, so theres always fun young med students floating around, trying to figure out your problems too.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned Harvard Vanguard. They have locations all over the Boston area, including smack-dab in Davis Square, adjacent to Au Bon Pain.
