where near davis (walking or driving- let's say cambridge or somerville) can i get a fresh croissant?
fresh as in, made on the premises or somewhere nearby?

extra points if there are flavored croissants (chocolate, almond...)

Thanks.

Boston and Winthrop Ave in Medford: Danish Pastry Shop

Davis Square: La Contessa bakery

Powderhouse Square: Broken Yolk

There;s also a bakery in Medford Square, 1369 Coffee house in Inman (which does Crossaints, I think), one or two places I'd try in harvard Square, etc.

La Contessa's croissants are a bit hit or miss (they do, however, have my favoritest cannolis in the world, I usually don't even like them)

In the Porter Exchange is a little bakery stand. They clearly don't make anything there (it's a kiosk), but everything I've tried has been good and fresh, including the chocolate croissants.

The JP Licks in JP had great croissants, but I don't think the davis branch has baked goods (?)

Thank you for asking this question. I'm moving to Davis and this is vital information.

I'm not sure if they have fresh croissants, but Café Rossini on Highland Avenue (on the way back to 28 from Davis) looks simply lovely.

Caffe Rossini has some of the best baked goods in the area. I regularly order cakes from them for special occasions. VERY high recommendation that people who like really nice cake check it out. (They sell slices of cake in the cafe; you can order an entire cake or pie two days in advance for a special event.)

They don't usually have croissants, though.

Au Bon Pain's almond croissants are not true croissants.

The O'Naturals on Elm Street in Davis Square also has excellent almond croissants, though they don't have them everyday. I think they have other flavors sometimes, too, but I hold out for the almond.

O'Natural's has croissants, including chocolate, but I don't know for sure if they are made on premises (they might be; I got a scone there once that was obviously freshly baked *drools*).

Quebrada Bakery on Mass Ave in Arlington (just past Lake St. on the left, if you're coming from Cambridge/Somerville) has excellent croissants. It's less than 2 miles from Davis Square, and on the 77 bus line.

Seconded! Their chocolate croissants are wonderful.

Thirded! A plain croissant and a gingerbread muffin from Quebrada and my morning is complete.

Arlington is actually surprisingly close to Davis, it's just in the direction you never think to go.

I was thinking this (of course, I live practically next to them ;). I am all about the cinnamon-almond, but they also have the aforementioned flavors (if you get the chocolate, get the petit unless you are a raging chocoholic or have a friend; they're weapons-grade), apple, raspberry, maybe even more stuff.

Sorelle's in Charlestown has amazing croissants and it's really not too far from Somerville.

Trader Joe's actually has my favorite croissants, although they're not bakery fresh, obviously. Toscanini's over by Dali has them, too.

Great question!

Oh, and Porter Square Books has fantastic scones (baked locally, not on premises). They also sell croissants (or at least croissant-like objects) by the same people which I've never tried because I never make it past the scones ;).

I believe they come from Petsi's Pies, down on Beacon St in Somerville. MMmmmmmmmm.

And if you're totally out of options, there's always Shaws in Porter Sq. (but really, I'd check everywhere else first.)
Croissants are so good.
