It requires driving 15 mins to get to, but I like
to go for a hike in the woods up in the Middlesex Fells.

I was going to suggest that, too. Assuming you can get there, the Stone Zoo is also in the Fells. I recommend standing in front of the otter enclosure for hours on end. When they stand on their hind legs and chirp at you, chirp back.

If you have access to a car, there are lot of excellent places to go hiking in the area.
