Personally I miss Picante... but is this more of the "chaining" of Davis? (Picante had a couple of other places - so I guess they qualify as a 'chain' - but not like a "brand").
I wonder why more independent places don't end up here (or if they do, endure).
And what keeps that Indian place next to the Farmer's Bounty going? I rarely see anyone in there.
Yeah, but doesn't really answer the original comment- superior food ain't gonna pay the waitstaff if no one is eating it. I also pass by Namaskar all the time and it's always empty. Never having eaten there myself, I will defer to your judgement about the quality of their food vs. Diva (a restaurant which I can take or leave). But it's curious that someplace that gets so many props always has only one table sat when I pass by at 7pm. I dunno, guess I'll have to try it out for meself.
I agree - I miss Picante too. I was kind of hoping Hi-Rise would move into the space. I'm tired of food in wrap form in the square.
Namaskar is the bomb, but I worry about it closing a lot too because it's never that crowded when I'm there. Which is a shame because the food is GREAT and the guys who work there are awesome. I know they are on dining in..I wonder if they get a fair amount of business that way.
I finally tried Namaskar tonight after all of the positive comments about it. I got the extra hot chicken vindaloo and it was really good. Thanks DSLJ.
Yeah, I get takeout from Namaskar but have never actually eaten there... So maybe there are plenty of others like me, invisibly supporting the business.
Whenever I eat at Namaskar, there's usually at least two or three people stopping by to pick up their takeout orders. I've also sat next to booths of people who have brought their out-of-town friends in to eat, saying "You must try this place!" which is always a good indicator of things.
I hope and think Namaskar does a good business, which is good, cause I like it when they make me a vindaloo so hot it induces endorphin-based vision quests. Diva won't do that, so nyer on them.
