Anyone know what happened to all the shops to the left of Alex's Pizza. I used to get my hair cut at Salonika. I'm curious to know what happened to those shops and what is going in. Sorry if this has been posted before.

Uh, Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Salonika moved to another side of the square on Hollander across from where Dave's Fresh Pasta is... either that or it's another hair place... pretty sure it was Salonika tho'

This is correct. I don't know the exact address, but it's a couple blocks up Holland St. on the left if you are coming from the square.

Salonika needs to update its web site, which still lists the old address. When you go to the old address, the sign gives the store's URL but not its new street address.

Salonika moved to 96 Holland Ave, so its across from the building with Dave's Fresh.

And Rock City Guitars "has been closed permanently".

(Sorry, I don't know anything about hair salons.)

Salonika had been hoping to move for awhile now...but I saw where they were the other day and I think it's still a good location.

I think there was some issue with the landlord being a complete despot or something when it came to their old building...is that right?

I heard the landlord wants to sell the property and build condos, just like he did on Willow St right next to the bike path. My source is my dog walker, so it's nothing concrete.

I've heard this too but that there's some sort of zoning issue with that lot being too close to other existing residences. But it's all just through the grapevine.

It's a tough location for businesses because not much foot traffic gets over that way.

But the property has a "For Rent" sign on it saying something like "Can Be Combined" (since the storefronts are quite small). If he wanted to tear it down, would he put up such a sign?

I don't know. I heard this last summer, so it might not be the case now.

The owner is pretty cagey. The sign would be up so he can 'prove' that he's trying to rent it. He definitely pushed out the other tenants by doubling their rents (same with the car rental place at the other corner). He's built several bad developments, and he's pulling some shoddy stuff at Willow and Morrison (the building doesn't match the conditions he agreed to with the Planning Board, and when he had to pump out the location before he built, he pumped the contaminated water right into the sewer!). The owner is definitely not to be trusted, but watch for him to finagle some sort of way to build his condos!

I can't fart in my house without getting a building permit and ensuring the fart is to code. How come this guy can get away with this? Oh, I forgot, his buddy probably works for the city.
