Anyone know what happened to all the shops to the left of Alex's Pizza. I used to get my hair cut at Salonika. I'm curious to know what happened to those shops and what is going in. Sorry if this has been posted before.

DESPERATE- Roommate needed

I am posting this for a friend.

She has a room available in her apartment now for immediate move-in. It's in a nice section of Somerville between Union Square and Davis Square on Avon St. The room is approximately 13 x 13 with a smallish closet. There's a spacious kitchen and living room. Rent is $400/month plus utilities and I believe it's a month-by-month. Not sure about security deposits/etc.

The other roommate is a guy. Both of them are pretty quiet and keep to themselves. The preferred roommate would also be pretty quiet and independent and comfortable/respectful of alternative sorts. There's plenty of onstreet parking- no parking permits needed. There's the 85 bus that runs right down their street. It's a short hike over to the Market Basket and Skybar.

If you're looking for inexpensive decent no-hassle digs, this is the place.

Ice cream truck/van

Has anyone else noticed an odd Ice Cream Truck/Van?

I've been hearing it play Send in The Clowns SO LOUDLY and it belches out a lot of exhaust. When I heard it , I went looking for what the source of the noise was. I smelled it before I saw it.

And it looks so beat up. Lots of old and peeling off stickers on the side. I didn't get a look at the passengers side where I assume the bigger window is to sell the product. When I saw it, there was a woman driver and that somehow relieved me. Maybe it's sexist of me, but when I saw the beat up van and all selling ice cream, I was a little sketched out. But a woman at the wheel made me feel just slightly less sketchy about it.

Are there permits needed for these types of things?
