Hi, I'm looking for a new primary care physician. I had one I really liked at Harvard Vanguard, but sadly, she passed on about a year ago. I'm not particularly satisfied with the new one. I'm on Tufts Health Insurance, and have a PPO plan, but would prefer someone in their network. Ideally, my doctor would be in or around Davis Square, but any place reasonably accessible from here by T or bike would be OK. I'm generally healthy, and don't have any specific needs, although I have a slight preference for a woman and a strong preference for someone who can talk to me about medical & science related things without talking down to me.

I recommend Somerville Family Practice on Broadway, specifically Dr. Leora Fishman if you would prefer a woman. It's just a couple of minutes walk from Davis Square.

Also, I know from similar LiveJournal discussions recently that many folks really like Davis Square Family Practice, which is right by Starbucks.

Here's the most recent post. (http://community.livejournal.com/davis_square/839264.html)

(I find that the search function on the comm's info page is sometimes more helpful that the tags... I just searched for "doctor" and that was on the first page of results! I knew I had posted a response there and was too lazy to type the same thing again, but look, this comment is now as long as my original comment.)

I deleted your "local businesses" tag and replaced it with a "health care" tag. If you click on it, you may find other posts of interest.

I also highly recommend Somerville Family Practice. Leora Fishman is officially listed as my PCP but you can see anyone there, and since she's busy I always see Maggie Satterfield, an NP, who fits your description perfectly. I've had migraines for 10 years and she finally found the right meds to fix me -- because she actually LISTENED to me. I heart her!

My PCP is Dr. Eleanor Hobbs at the Davis Harvard Vanguard clinic. I really like her and most of the staff there rxcept for one other doctor who's a total bitch.

Seconded on Dr. Hobbs. She is wonderful. She once called my roommate at home (she was not her PCP, just reviewed her over-the-weekend case and was concerned) to check on her, and when she found she was not better, offered to call her a cab to clinic.

She's the one I think is a total bitch. I had to see her once because everyone else was full, and in three minutes she went from "You have allergies" to "You have early stage fibromyalgia" to "Oh stop whining. You're just tired because you're fat."

I'd second the rec for Davis Square Family Practice - particularly Dr. Deborah Bershel. She's good people.

I also knew your doc at HVMA... she'll be missed. Sigh.

Agreed -- I see Bari-Sue Brodsky, whom I've also been really happy with.

Also recommending bershel. She's amazing, and has a great relationship with her patients.

I see Larissa Lucas at Cambridge Family Health in Inman Square, and I totally love her. I've also seen two other doctors there who were equally fabulous. I'm also on Tufts so I know they'll take your insurance.

Update on Dr. Lucas

Called today (12/13/07) and found out Dr. Lucas has moved out of the state. My search for a new PCP continues!

I go to Dr. Nimmi Trapasso at the Marino Center, and I really like her. The Marino Center is on Mass Ave just past the Davis area.

I used to go to the HVMA in Davis a while back, though - which doctor died?

Oh, how sad! That's who I used to see there. :(

Good luck.
