It's about 5:15pm and I'm in Porter Square. There was what just sounded like two cracks of thunder (about five minutes apart) -- out of a clear blue sky.

Did anybody actually in Davis Square at the moment also hear these?

Update: Found the storm. It's directly over the building I'm in and the back parking lot. Out the front windows, it's beautiful and sunny. Out the back, it looks like incipient Armageddon. It's like we have our very own thundercloud teathered to the roof.

I am in that building right now. Out the window: blue sky. Look up: death cloud. It's fully raining 3 blocks away. Craziness!

In the mid 90s I worked at a Davis Square based consulting company that had people working at various client sites around metro Boston, but we all hung out on an IRC channel together - it was our virtual office. I remember one day when we got different weather observations on channel from Davis, Harvard, Memorial Drive, downtown, and one other place in the area. I don't remember which was which, but they included:
- rainy and windy
- partly cloudy and cool
- gloomy and cloudy with no raid
- snowing and calm

Very much so, though I prefer to call it thundersnow.

That's a different sort of weird, though - it wasn't that we were all having different weather in different parts of the city at the same time, it was that we were all having the same very strange weather.

Yes - I was just on the phone with my partner (who is in Davis Square), and I could hear them through the phone!

We're getting them out in Arlington. Clear blue, huge booms--wacky.

It's definite thunder and lightning. I'm on Highland Ave and haven't heard or seen any rain or hail yet, but there's the strong smell of ozone, and the temperature and humidity have dropped.

I can hear them fine at Alewife.

Boston.com has a weather advisory warning of thunder, wind, and hail. I'm looking at the bizarre scene of rain falling in front of a blue-sky backdrop. Perhaps all the clouds are directly over my roof.

I'm hearing thunder right now in the North End Waterfront. The sky is not blue here. It looks quite threatening, in fact.

Heard in Medford along with a hevy downpour afterwards. Not hearing anything now, though.

This is the sort of weather I typically see on a FL afternoon....

i heard it in belmont, and the view outside my office window is blue sky and a few fluffy clouds. which means the storm is probably on the other side of the building.

I'm in downtown crossing and I heard the same thing at the same time, so whatever it was, it's not local :)

I've been sitting at the Boloco for a couple of hours, and the crack was practically deafening. I think it cracked right behind me.

I was on a bus home from work. Two loud cracks, some weak rain. The sidewalks in Ball Square were only slighty wet when I got here.

I was in the Shaw's parking lot and saw the lightening that made that thunder. You're not crazy. About this, anyway. Good times!

I was sitting outside JP Licks and the thunder cracked like right over the two metal poles I was sitting between. I jumped outta my skin. And then it started raining across the street. Weird!

WHAM! directly overhead, again and again. Then I get out and bike from home on Winter Hill to Target near Union Square and not a drop.

I looked at the weather radar so I'd know when not to bike home from work, and it showed this little dot of red and yellow materializing out of nowhere outside 128 and bearing down on Somerville. Decided to stick around for a bit.

I saw big bolts and sheets of lightning all around me when I walked from Inman Sq to Central Sq around 9:15 tonight. But only light rain.

We held the free sock puppet movie in the rain and lightning storm in the alley outside of the gallery. We had to cancel last Thursday due to the cold weather, and we were determined not to cancel again.

Thanks to those who came out anyway and huddled under the tiki umbrellas to watch the movie. Aside from the rain and the electrical storm, the temperature was good and we'll do it again next week (minus the rain and electrical storm I hope).

Next week's movie: Metropolis (original silent movie version).

One of the lightning strikes hit the building across the street from me (Orchard St) as I was sitting by the window. A bright blue flash hit just as a crack of thunder rang out. Firetrucks arrived about five minutes later but couldn't find anything ablaze.

Where on Orchard?

I recall that a few years ago, lightning hit the apartment building at the northeast corner of Orchard and Day.

Corner of Orchard and Milton. Lightning hit the condos across the street -- the tower, I believe.
