I agree that 9 is a fine bedtime for a child who has the option of sleeping late the next morning. Since mine doesn't have that option, though, he needs to get to bed earlier. Also, he has just recently stopped napping during the day (he's 4) so he does need some extra sleep to make up for it. (my toddler is a whole other story but she will never go to sleep until after her brother does, so, whatever.)

Unfortunately we don't have the option of leaving the Trum Field area, since we live two blocks away. The fireworks show is an issue for us every year.

Thanks for your concern. I'm quite accustomed to having my parenting skills/choices criticized by strangers on the internet -- usually people who don't actually have kids of their own. So yeah, I have a pretty thick skin about it.
