Airplane noise is up 3X in Davis area this year. This is confirmed by Somerville Transportation Equity Partnership (STEP) and our mayor. You may or may not have read the articles in the news. Both STEP and our mayor have encouraged people who are annoyed by the noise, to call this number and complain:

(617) 561-3333

Here is some more info:

http://www.somervillestep.org/mt/mt-search.cgi?search=logan

The more people that call and complain the better chance we have in getting a reduction in overhead flights (so we're told).

If you don't care about the increase, or don't care about planes flying by every 40 seconds, please read all of the witty responses below instead.

No, the community is hardly pro-noise. However, there's not a lot of tolerance for ill-thought out comments like This is a new problem to Somerville. We didn't choose to live in Winthrop where this is expected. If the weather is bad, then the people flying should have to wait

It's not a new problem, as others in the thread have indicated.

[livejournal.com profile] agreeleyo's post below contains the number you should call to complain.

HONK TO IMPEACH doesnt sound like "hardly pro-noise" to me.

If you actually bothered to read the post about HONK TO IMPEACH (http://community.livejournal.com/davis_square/949744.html), you'll see that people weren't too thrilled with it.

No it's not. I first noticed it months ago.

Your evidence?

To mine, I point to other people's comments (in this and previous posts) mentioning the issue as a problem for years. The frequency may have increased, or people are just more bothered by it, but it's not new at all.

Ah, well, I agree that it does seem to have become more frequent of late, even though the problem's been noted for some time.

Here you go (http://www.somervillestep.org/mt/mt-search.cgi?search=logan). Now you have an extra 1.5 minutes for griping on LJ!

Having now taken some time to look at this data and think about it - it's not especially useful. It only compares 2006 to 2007. And there's nothing much about -why- it's happening: Have the total number of flights from Logan changed? Have there been significantly more days this year, compared to last, with wind patterns such that aircraft have to fly over Somerville, in which case, it seems we're SOL? Etc.

Most likely some *other* neighborhood whined and bitched until they changed the flight paths. Now they'll wait until force to change them again, and just round-robin, pissing off each group a little at a time. ;-)

Well, that and 'richest complainers win'.
