Thanks!

I just wanted to thank everyone who offered thoughts and such the other day when I was looking for some drug-free emergency counseling.

I mostly was looking for something like the Gesundheit Institute, or possibly something like a Buddhist retreat (with a mental health focus) or something similar. I didn't find anything like that around here (though it may still exist!), but I did find a couple of people who came to my rescue and offered me some of the safety and compassion and support that I needed. And in the end, I had much more fun and the "therapy" was probably infinitely more effective than any hospital could have provided (I'm guessing)!

And I'm feeling much, much better now. Really good, in fact. My needs weren't that difficult to meet, they were just lacking in a really catastrophic way all of a sudden, and needed immediate and emergency attention.

So yeah, thanks!

Thanks for the update. I'm glad to hear you got the help you needed. I've never been here, but a friend loves this place if you want a little retreat in the Berkshires. www.kripalu.com

Another vote for Kripalu

YES! They have a psychologist there named Stephen Cope who wrote Yoga and the Quest for the True Self. I found the book amazing and, maybe, someone else like you will too. I think he may do programs there.

Kripalu is a good place to go for inner questing and yoga. They have different programs that may address the atmosphere you are questing for. they also have ways you can work a bit during your stay to help pay for it.

Although I was silent on your last post, my thoughts were with you all weekend. I just did not have information for you. Thank you for the update.

The book I mentioned chronicles the psychologist's journey from crisis through to a better understanding of his self. But maybe for after the crisis (unless it would be helpful now, only you would know).

So still adding my support of attention.

Take care and know there are people thinking of you.

It is a good place to go, not during a time of instability like the OP was feeling in the previous post, and not if you feel you need serious one-on-one attention, but it's definitely great for a retreat in general.

I lived there for most of a year as a volunteer and student in '03/'04 and would be happy to talk about it at length. :)

Right. It would not have been what she needed at the moment of crisis but good for other times. Sorry I did not say that and been clearer in my other post about what my vote for Kripalu meant.

Buddhist meditation centers- local!

If you are looking for Buddhist meditation, I cannot recommend highly enough the Cambridge Insight Meditation Center. It's not specific to mental health, but the teachers are wonderful and welcoming, the center is peaceful, and there are tons of classes that might appeal to you- check them out at www.cimc.info

Another place closer than Kripalu (also awesome) is the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, MA. They are doing their long retreat (three months) right now, but other parts of the year feature weekend or weeklong retreats of all varieties. I went to one this past March that totally changed my life. (P.S. I am a person who struggles with mental illness). www.dharma.org

Good luck- and I'm glad you are feeling better!

I adore the teachers at the cambridge insight meditation center. they have some classes and workshops but i thought, when i lived around the corner, that the best thing was that they had sittings every weekday morning and evening that you could go to without being a member. This stuff will not be a solution to crisis, but is fabulous in the long term for dealing with all kinds of stuff.
