Hi all,

I'm looking for a good home* for this full-length bookcase. I think it's IKEA, but I can't seem to find it on their site. Anyways, it was given to me for free and I'm selling it for the same price. If you can haul it, it's yours!

Deets:
Bookcase is 6'3.5" x 2'9.5" x ~1'0.5".
My apartment building is up the hill from the Somerville Ave car wash, near Summer St. Be prepared to haul it up a half-flight of stairs and then down a quarter-flight.

DM me if interested.

*For a bookcase, my only criterion for a "good home" is one in which it won't be chopped up for firewood and used in a ritual to summon a demon to destroy the universe, bring untold pain and suffering, something along those lines.

The sleeper sofa I posted about on 12/9 is now free to a good home! It's outside at 112 Summer St.

Still working on cleaning out my aunt's apartment: everything we disappear before the professional clean-out people come, the less we have to pay them.

1) Christmas decorations:

My aunt turned out to be into Christmas decorating, big time. Would anybody be interested in making off with her collection of decorations, wholesale?

We're not entirely sure what all is in there, but it seems to be tree ornaments and indoor wall decorations. I saw some boxes of traditional round red glass ornaments, and a pack of lights. We're not willing to go through it, ourselves, and are otherwise going to just pitch it all in the dumpster, not least because there may well be broken ornaments and glass shards in there - we found some crushed ornaments outside the boxes, already.

If you are willing to take the whole lot, sight unseen, potential broken glass and all, let me know and we can drive it down to the Davis Square area, Sunday night. We'd probably have to deliver to your place, because I can't take receipt at mine, and I don't know when exactly that would be.

2) Perfume:

My aunt accumulated a collection of perfumes. I want to confirm with her that she doesn't want them any more (and she may not be allowed to wear scents in the nursing home). At which point these would be free for the taking, later in the week or next week. If someone is interested in getting the whole batch, please let me know.

My elderly aunt has recently and abruptly had to move into a nursing home, and I'm helping out with breaking down her apartment. I found her trove of scarves, which she no longer wants. I suspect they're something somebody would love. They're very 1960s-to-1980s, bright colors, bold patterns, some I think silk. Also ribbons and sashes.

If that hypothetical person exists and is reading LJ, and replies very soon, the whole sack of them is theirs for the asking - but you have to take the lot.

ETA: just found her hat collection. I had no idea. These are also free for the asking.

Davis square area pickup.

Howdy! Doing a bit of spring cleaning, and we have a few things that are looking for good homes.

The big item is a corner desk. It was originally from Ikea, I believe (it predates me in this house), and is still in perfectly good shape -- I've simply replaced it with a standing desk, which is more to my preference. It is now fully disassembled down in our basement, but you can find pictures of it in this album. I took the photos as I was taking it apart, to help understand how to put it back together.

It's mostly a lot of small-to-medium-sized pieces. The only tricky bit is the main desktop, which is about four feet square -- it can probably fit in a standard car, but it's not small, and probably wants two people to carry it safely.

It includes an aftermarket keyboard tray that I added, and goes to the first person who comes and gets it. It's a good desk, with lots of useful space in a small footprint, ideal for office or student use.

I've also got a bunch of comics longboxes -- the three-foot ones that hold a couple hundred comics each. I'm gradually whittling down my massive comics collection, and have about ten longboxes now sitting empty. They're used, but still intact. First come, first serve -- while I'm happy to give them all to one person, I expect folks are more likely to want just a couple of them.

Finally, we've got a pile of spice jars, mostly from Penseys. We'll recycle them if need be, but if somebody has a use for them, please drop me a note.

We're on Murdock Street, just off Cedar St. at the Ball Square end. (Near the end of the Community Path.) If you're interested in any of the above, you can contact me by messaging me here, or email me at jducoeur at gmail. Thanks!

I noticed this beautiful mirror on the curb this morning. It has a tag that says made in Italy. About four feet tall. Would be a shame for it to be trashed!

Near the top of Clarendon Ave (20-30 Clarendon Ave) Somerville, on the left. See pic below. Read more... )

I'm thinking of getting rid of my old (but still in peak condition) student desk. Could any of you use such a thing, or do you know someone who might want it?

It's 29" high, 26" deep, 48" wide, made of wood. Has a monitor-stand platform thingy (separate piece, sits on the desk). Easily dis/reassemblable into its component boards. One side has 2 drawers and a file drawer; the other side has 3 bookshelves. Pictures available.

I think it's a pretty great piece of furniture, but I haven't used it for anything but storage in years since I switched from a desktop to laptop computer. (And I have a second desk, which is less practical but has greater sentimental value.)

I'm getting rid of a bunch of stuff: photo albums, candles, candle holders, picture frames, sectioned pill boxes, heel lifts for shoes.... Anything that isn't taken today will have to be thrown out, unfortunately.

Started around 11:30 today (Sunday) it will be in the lobby of 18 Day St. Enjoy!

Hi folks, my apologies for not being as prepared with lists as I thought I was. I've started sending lists to those who expressed interest. Bear with me, if you will! :)
[identity profile] she-of-emeralds.livejournal.com
Hi all, I've got some books I'm decluttering--just too many of them taking up space in my house. I'd prefer to give them away rather than try to sell them. I've got some in each of the following categories:

--writing and reference

--science fiction and fantasy

--mainstream fiction

--pagan

--nonfiction (mostly history and psychology)

I don't want to clutter up this post with all the titles. If interested, please comment with what category or categories you're interested in and I will PM you with the list(s). Thanks!

This moving saga is getting.. complicated. The part of most immediate concern is that I can't take my cat with me when I move (badly allergic person at destination), and both my primary and backup plans for finding her a new home have failed. And so I'm offering her to you:

Shelby is a spayed female tortoiseshell... )

I'm looking for someone who's willing to adopt her, or perhaps board her for 4-6mo while DH and I sort out independent housing at our destination. We can supply all of her care items, as well as our current stock of food & litter. We'll be renting a van for move-related errands and can deliver if needed.

If you'd like to arrange to meet her, send me a PM and we'll work something out.

I find myself moving out of Massachusetts, and there are some things that I'm not taking with me.

#1: Standard Somerville compost bin, containing 4yrs of vegetarian kitchen-related compost. I have been remiss in never pulling the finished compost out, so what's at the bottom should be ready to rock your garden as soon as spring comes 'round. (No meat, cheese, or oil-heavy contents. Some eggshells.) If you only want the contents, I can figure out something else to do with the bin. Claimed!

#2: Tall bookcase, WHD: 2'6"x6'x1', OSB under middling-light veneer. Five shelves, four of which are movable. In decent condition. (Not taking it because I'm upgrading at the destination.) Claimed!

I don't have a car, so you'd need to pick up from Winter Hill. I can help load into/onto whatever transport you have.

More stuff may find its way onto this list as decisions are made during packing. Move date is 1/31.

In an effort to clean out things I'm not using, I have a lot to get rid of! And it's all in good condition! There are photos in the CL links below. Some is free, and some I'm selling, but feel free to negotiate :) And I'll be glad to lower the price if you can pick something up by the end of the weekend!
