Well no, it's not toast exactly - it's just out of business.

Old news? I walked by this morning and the windows were papered over. There is a note on the door saying something about "circumstances beyond our control" etc. and that a new resturant will open in that location April 1st. I never actually went there. It seemed a bit "too cool mall style" for my tastes but it's better than another bank.

Seems like there are a lot of street level vacancies in the Sq. these days. Rents too high? Not enough traffic for more food/coffee places? Or parking for serious retail?

Be nice if a good gallery opened but the chances of that are probably slim to none.

oh, my aching taxes

i need serious help with my taxes this year, which will include accounting for some domestic partner-type finances. can anyone recommend a good accountant in the area who is very well-versed in Massachusetts tax stuff and will not judge me for living in same-sex sin? thanks.

Scary fireworks in Porter Square tonight

According to this post at railroad.net, some major electrical problem happened tonight around 6:45 pm, involving a #77A trackless trolley and the overhead wires.

I came out of the subway around 7 pm and didn't even know any of this had happened. But the person who was supposed to meet me at Porter Square Books was caught in traffic on Mass. Ave. for over a half hour, and this was probably why.

I have no idea what "Alex Pizza and More" is, but according to the sign, that's what will replace Out of the Blue at the corner of Highland and Cutter avenues. (Out of the Blue recently moved to Elm Street, next to the Rosebud.)
