What was that motorcycle parade all about that went through Davis around 11 this morning? It was escorted by Somerville PD and at least one Sheriff's car. I looked to see if any of the bikers had T-shirts or flags or anything but no dice.

I just moved into a place that uses heating oil. I've never used oil before and my landlord does not have an agreement with a specific company. Does anybody have any specific recommendations or warnings for local oil delivery companies?
Thanks!

EDIT: Thanks for all of the suggestions!! I think I'm going to check out the energy alliance. :)

So my penny jar doth overflow. Last time I brought a bunch of pennies to my bank (Citizen's) I got a bunch of attitude from them (even though I had confirmed by phone that it was ok to bring pennies in for counting/deposit to my account).

I thought I saw something here about a machine at Shaw's that will take/convert pennies- but before I haul them over there I thought I would check with the knowledgeable folks here. So is there a machine? What's the charge?

This morning while commuting to work on my bicycle I was involved in an accident with a motorist. What happened was the following: I was making a left-hand turn from a one way street (Western Avenue) onto a two-way street (Blackstone Street, the one right before Memorial Drive). As usual, there was a lot of traffic at this time of day (~ 7:45 AM). As a result, I could not see the lane I was turning into because there was a truck, followed by a line of cars, waiting to turn from Blackstone onto Western Avenue. Usually, this is not a problem; I just put my arm out to signal a left turn and I make the turn. This morning was a different story, however. As I made the turn I realized to my surprise that there was a car right in front of me, instead of an open lane. This car had moved into the opposite (oncoming) lane in an effort to get onto Western Avenue by going around the truck in front of him. I immediately applied the breaks to keep from slamming into the car and, as a result, went flying over the handlebars. I somehow managed to break my fall with my hands, thankfully. As I was picking myself up off the ground the person who had pulled into the wrong lane rolled down his window and said he was, “sorry”.  At that point I was somewhat dazed and didn’t know what to say or do. My main concern was to determine if I was injured or not. I felt OK, but I knew that shock might prevent me from realizing the extent of my injuries. The person in the truck rolled down his window and expressed his concern for me, and anger at the motorist who wrongly blocked my path. The truck drive also said I should get the license plate number of the person’s car. I turned to look for the plate number but the person had already driven off and I couldn’t see it clearly. As far as I can tell, I have no major injuries; my hands were scraped up and needed a few band-aids but otherwise I’m none the worse for wear. The reason for my post is that it brings several questions to mind: Should I have tried to get the driver’s license plate number? (In case I found out later that I was injured, for example). What legal recourse does a bicyclist have in an accident with a motorist? Will auto insurance cover a cyclist injured in this type of accident? Does anyone know where to find out this kind of info?  I apologize for the lengthy post.  Thanks for your time and consideration.

Hey,

I recently heard that Davis Square hosts a yearly Apple Cider fair in the autumn. Does anyone know when / if this will take place this year? I'd like to buy cider in bulk for brewing. Thanks!

Super 88

This is more of the 'tricks of the T' sort of thing. I want to go to a Super 88, and don't really care which one. But I need to go by public transit. I'll be going from Davis or Porter Square (both easily walkable from my place).

Since none of them are here in Somerville, does anyone know which one is the *easiest* to get to by T? MBTA gives a bunch of solutions, but they all have at least don't really help a lot for actually grading the trip.

(they also want me to take a completely train-based trip to the one in Malden, going all the way Downtown and back out the Orange Line, that takes 82 minutes with 15 minutes of walking, when a well timed use of the 90 to Wellington and the 108 to a block from the Malden location would take about half that time. But I also know that timing would need to be right accurate. I'm not concerned about *when* I do the trip, I have my days to plan for myself.)

So who has really good, clever ways of getting to any Super 88?

Thanks!

I just wanted to thank everyone who offered thoughts and such the other day when I was looking for some drug-free emergency counseling.

I mostly was looking for something like the Gesundheit Institute, or possibly something like a Buddhist retreat (with a mental health focus) or something similar. I didn't find anything like that around here (though it may still exist!), but I did find a couple of people who came to my rescue and offered me some of the safety and compassion and support that I needed. And in the end, I had much more fun and the "therapy" was probably infinitely more effective than any hospital could have provided (I'm guessing)!

And I'm feeling much, much better now. Really good, in fact. My needs weren't that difficult to meet, they were just lacking in a really catastrophic way all of a sudden, and needed immediate and emergency attention.

So yeah, thanks!
