Hi everyone...I'm going to do some wandering around the Davis square area this afternoon, taking some pictures of houses/sites that are either currently being renovated, or in need of renovation. Let's be artsy and give it a fancy title: "The Faces of Development in Davis".

I spent 2 seconds coming up with that bland, uninteresting title.

Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions for places to photograph? I'm a huge dork, so I made a google map: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=114285391187782101145.000448217a387044b5e7e&ll=42.397062,-71.121454&spn=0.015846,0.040169&z=15
(You should also be able to find it on google maps by searching for "Davis Square Development Photos")

Please feel free to add locations to the map (sorry, most of those were just placed by hand...I realize it would have been more clear if I included the address along with the placemark), or just reply in the comments of this thread.

I will report back with links to all the photos. Thanks!

Updated: here is a link to the photos. These were taken by a friend of mine, and I am not going to go through and label them all. Hopefully this can turn into a bigger project where the photos can be mapped to where they were taken. Enjoy:

My partner and I are hoping to buy a home in a few months (and man, that time keeps getting shorter). We're looking here in Somerville among other places. Can anyone recommend a good buyer's agent who they think would be good to help a pair of first-time home buyers to get the most for their money and find a good place to call home?

Like many people...I'm looking for an apartment. I live in Chestnut Hill (newton) right now, and while my apartment is great, I'm sick of not being even remotely close to the T or the bus. I want to move to Somerville (specifically Davis or Central areas). I would like to avoid using a broker if at all possible. I've been scouring craigslist daily but there's just not much there right now. If you know of anyone looking to rent their place, I'd love to hear about it! (And if you happen to know of a broker you'd actually recommend, that'd be great too, but as someone else posted here or in b0st0n today, those just don't seem to exist.)

here's what I'm looking for )

Friday, March 14, 9pm-midnight
Dilboy VFW, Davis Square
371 Summer Street, Somerville

Suggested donation: $20 (or pay what you can)

Featuring open floor dancing with DJs Anechoic and Punketta Doilie, poetry readings, burlesque, banjos and belly dance along with a silent auction of fabulous items from artists, artisans and local merchants.

In December 2007, Paisley was riding her bicycle down the street minding her own business when wham! she was hit by a truck. She suffered traumatic injuries and still faces a long road to recovery. During this recovery, she is largely unable to work, and so we hold this party for her, both to celebrate her survival and to raise funds to ensure her continued well being in Boston.

My electric bill seems unusually high. I saw the meter-reader man this morning, and so I thought I might check it out. Knowing nothing about electricity, I have a question. I live in an owner occupied house. My side pays for our own utilities including electric. There is one digital meter, and two identical analog meters. How do I figure out which one is for my side of the house? I didn't see any identifying markers on any of the meters.

Do you want to contribute to renewable energy projects and help Somerville win free solar panels for a school?

Join Somerville Climate Action in the New England Wind Fund Solar Challenge at www.NewEnglandWind.Org/Somerville. The deadline is April 30th to be counted in the race to win solar panels!

Here's how it works:

Your Somerville household/business makes a donation ($5 per month or a $100 one-time contribution) to the New England Wind Fund.

1. The donation is fully tax-deductible.
2. The donation is matched twice by the state's Massachusetts Technology Collaborative:
- once back to Somerville to fund renewable energy projects, and
- once to fund clean energy projects that benefit the state's low-income residents (which Somerville may be able to draw upon).
3. AND....as an added incentive: the New England Wind Fund will provide and install at no cost to the city a 2kw solar system on one of our schools - BUT ONLY IF we get enough people to sign up by April 30th: We need 150 new donors to the New England Wind Fund.
4. It's a great educational opportunity for the school.
5. The city saves money on electricity costs, creates fewer greenhouse gases and other air pollutants, and helps New England move toward energy independence.

We can only win with your help! And only if you join SOON.
For more details and contact information, plus to learn which other towns won panels, and to join now!: www.NewEnglandWind.Org/Somerville

I have a couple of pieces of fine jewelry (gold, platinum, precious gems and such) that I'd like to sell. I want to get a decent price for them. Does anyone know of a good place to sell such things in Somerville or Cambridge?
