My girlfriend's prius has had a series of unfortunate incidents which have left the bumpers (just the plastic covers, not the actual bumpers) in need of replacement. Does anyone have recommendations of place to go (or avoid) to have this done? Also, has anyone happened to have a plastic bumper replaced on a toyota? It seems like it ought to be fairly cheap, since the bumper basically snaps on.

Have you tried to post a comment in this community, only to have LJ ask you to "confirm you are a human" by typing two words into a CAPTCHA?

If so, you are "watching" this community (perhaps from your friends list) but have not joined it. Once you join it, you'll no longer see the CAPTCHA screen when commenting. See this davis_meta post for an explanation of why we recently had to adopt this security measure.

My friend [livejournal.com profile] hellgirl13 sent me an email that I'd like to post. Her LJ is blocked from work and her home computer is acting up. I got her permission to post what she wrote here:

So, I ate my lunch and was perusing the Wicked Local Somerville Blog and came across an entry that asked, "If Somerville was an ice cream, what flavors would it be?"

Here's my answer:

Tuft's Frat Boy Fudge Swirl (sold only in Davis Square on Friday and Saturday nights during the school year. May leave an aftertaste of cheap beer on the palate.)

Sanctuary Soft Serve (We refuse to tell you what's in it, what flavors it's available in or where it can be purchased, so go away you fascist pigs!)

Organic, Artisan, Vegan, Caffeine Free Mocha Tazo Crunch (made with all natural, organically grown ingredients and sold for 200 dollars a pint.
.01% of all proceeds donated to charity. Container made of recycled toilet paper. No animals were harmed in the typing of this message.)

Guinness Float (We took the "root" out of the "root beer float"! Best served with a side of pickled fish or shepherd's pie. Only sold at local pubs, found on every corner.)

Plain Vanilla (Another Davis Square special made popular after skyrocketing rent drove out everyone except those who had already paid their homes off, students who have no troubles living 15 to a 500 square foot apartment or wealthy, Caucasian upstarts...none of whom bring any true spice or bold flavor to an area. In fairness, vanilla is a lovely additive in it's own right, used in just about every recipe known to man and most consumers find it quite inoffensive.)

in their own words:
"We come from Ratsylvania, where we would dance, play music, fight, strip off all our clothes, blacksmith, and generally carry on without work of a mundane sort. A few of us decided to venture away from our past haven and found ourselves traveling dusty freight cars through a strange God-soaked place called the U.$.A.. About the music: Some of it we find at campfires when we travel around, some we buy on the black market in exchange for moonshine, some we discover in our dreams about life back in Ratsylvania. "

it's sure to be a great time. please come out to support these traveling artists and musicians!

Just noticed a "store closing" sign in the Corners window at the Porter Mall. Gee...who saw that coming.

Oh - same edge of Davis: some odd/interesting sculpture garden going up in the front yard of one of the house on Elm. Anyone know what is up with that?

I was so excited to write my first LJ post that I walked home and forgot about the fact that I parked my car in the square.  My very sweet husband offered to go back and get it, but anyway, I digress.  Apparently the owners of Antonia's are expanding into the place next door where the (recently closed?) spa place is currently.  I remember reading a somewhat recent post about the spa but can't remember what the story was.  Anyway, they are starting the renovations in a week or two and will likely remain open.  In addition to more seating, they are adding a bar.  I just adore this place so I'm pleased to share the news.  I hope it doesn't lose its charm!

Please help me find my cat. Bacon went missing on Sunday, July 12. He's an all black male cat with yellowish eyes. He was lost on Highland Road, but his collar was found on Pearson Avenue. Please call me if you think you've seen him. 617 417 7840. Cash reward.

Thank you for your help.
