This week's Somerville News has an article about the Somerville Theatre's policy of banning children under 12 8* from entering the theatre after 6 pm, even if they are accompanied by adults.

Is the theatre's policy a service to its customers who want a peaceful movie experience, or is it unfair discrimination against families with young children?

I'm posting this because we can have a more civilized discussion here than on the Somerville News blog comments. Ian Judge, the theatre's manager, reads this community, so we may be able to provide useful feedback to him here.

* Edited 11:55 am to add: I have a serious factual issue with this article. It says the policy applies to children under 12, but the theatre's website and exterior signs say it's for children under 8. That's a significant difference -- maybe significant enough to change people's opinions.

Second edit, 3 pm: Ian Judge has clarified that the theatre's policy is to exclude children under 8, not 12, from entering after 6 pm. He had made an erroneous statement to the News reporter which very unfortunately made it into the published article. Also, here is Ian's response to the specific incident detailed in the News article.

This morning I was taking my dog out and a pup that I've seen before came up to sniff him. When I noticed the dog he got skiddish and walked off. I tried using my dog as bait as he didn't seem dog-shy but failed.

He is young - I'd say 2 or 3, toffee colored with white markings and very fluffy (yet scruffy). I know I saw him at least a month ago so he's a tough thing; if I get hold of him I'll bring him in.

Just wanted to spread the word. I'm sure he misses home.

This was at Highland and Cronwell St. a block from Cedar St.

Hi, I'm starting grad school at Tufts next week and my hair is looking a mess. Does anyone have a black hair salon they can recommend? Everyone knows word of mouth is best when it comes to hair. Thanks!!

I recently spoke with John the owner of Supreme Kitchen and they are estimating roughly a month until the repairs are finished and they can re-open. He asked me to let the community know.

They miss seeing all of their customers and look forward to serving all of you again.

In case you missed it a few weeks ago somebody performing an illegal U-Turn on Highland Ave backed into the front door of the restaurant.

Thank you,
September

I'm getting tired of trying to get my hair to take dye properly when doing it myself, and I'm wondering where I can go to get a professional dyejob. I wouldn't be looking for anything too outlandish, so pretty much everywhere is up for consideration. Has to be T (or bus)-accessible, and I'm looking for a place that won't be insanely expensive. I'm not sure if it's the generally accepted price, but a lot of the places I've seen around here have been about 70-80 dollars. If that's the general price, then fine, but if I can find a cheaper place, that would be great. Thanks!

Also- does anyone know of any fancy spa-type places or beauty supply stores in the general Boston area that would have products for sale? I'm mostly looking for fancy nail polish, and most of the nail places that I've seen don't sell the polish they use. Thanks!

Can anyone recommend a place they particularly like, preferably in Porter/Davis, to have prints framed? I used to go to M.S. Murphy in Davis -- they were great. They had a good selection of frames, were good at helping you pick frames and matting, took time with customers, etc. I'm looking for someplace that's like that, but not ultra-expensive. I remember going to Frameworks (now Corners) and you had to take a number, wait around, and then they kind of rushed you through.
