I commissioned a portrait by a webcomic artist that I really enjoy (there was a fundraiser) and I'd like to get it printed and framed by the end of the month (ideally), when my parents visit. However, I know nothing of printing and framing! Does anyone have recommendations of where I should go for each part? (I'm looking through past "framing" posts on DS LJ, so I guess I'm more interested in printing recommendations, unless there's a new framer since 3 years ago.)

I assume that I'd ask the printer to print it at some standard size, and that the framing shop could then pick an appropriate frame and matting for me. Is that right, or should I already have a frame picked out?

Bonus for T-accessible locations; carrying a framed picture by bike would be annoying.

ETA: I ended up using Big Picture for the framing based on these recommendations, and they in turn recommended Gnomon Copy of all places for printing. So I went with that, even though the latter's pricing structure is exceedingly silly.

Today's Groupon is $40 for $100 worth of custom framing at all 12 Big Picture Framing locations, including 1100 Mass. Ave. the 2044 Mass. Ave. store near Porter Square.  They have been recommended here as perhaps the best framers to work with in the local area.  The Groupon is good for six months.

Note that Big Picture Framing also has a 50% off sale that runs for the entire month of November.  The Groupon can't be combined with the sale, but is a bigger discount for orders of $120 or less (plus it's good into May 2011).

Here's the link, which includes a referral code (thanks!):

I have a 45 single / 7 inch album that I'd like to frame, and while full-sized vinyl frames are a dime a dozen, I'm having trouble finding one for the smaller size record. And the custom route seems to be awfully expensive for something like this.

Anyone know somewhere local to buy a 7 inch square frame, or a larger one that's matted down to 7 inches? Or do you HAVE one lying unused in your basement or something?

Edit: I posted on Freecycle as well and actually got a response from someone with a frame that might work. So I can't report back on whether any of these (great) suggestions worked out, but maybe they'll help someone else.

Or maybe I'll come back to the suggestions once I pick up the Freecycle option and find out it's the wrong size. heh.

Where do I find these? You know - the tiny paper ones you use for jell-o shots. I've checked CVS, the dollar store, and a few grocery stores with no luck. :/

Time is kind of important, they're for a birthday party and I had no idea they'd be so difficult to find.
Yay, I found a Foodmaster that had them! Thanks guys.

While I'm here - any leads on a basic, inexpensive, 16"x20" black picture frame would be fabulous! TJMaxx had nothing, and all the frame stores in the area only seem to carry ridiculously expensive frames that aren't what I need.

Thanks! :)

Anyone know of a good place in/around Davis to get something custom framed - without breaking the bank?

Can anyone recommend a place they particularly like, preferably in Porter/Davis, to have prints framed? I used to go to M.S. Murphy in Davis -- they were great. They had a good selection of frames, were good at helping you pick frames and matting, took time with customers, etc. I'm looking for someplace that's like that, but not ultra-expensive. I remember going to Frameworks (now Corners) and you had to take a number, wait around, and then they kind of rushed you through.

I have an old large painting that has been taken off it's stretchers and rolled up.  I'd like to get it put back on stretchers (is this what they are called? you know, the wooden bits that make a canvas into a painting) but not framed.  I have NO IDEA where to get something like this done.  Help?

N.B. I checked the art tags already.

Hello,

Can anyone recommend a good, dependable picture-framing place? I've had terrible luck with Corners (damaged a painting, failed to take responsibility, have been very slow to make repairs) and would prefer to go to a local business anyway. I saw the earlier post referring to the framer in Natick, but I would prefer someplace closer.

Does anyone have a place they can recommend for oil paintings and mounted photographs?

Thanks

Where is a good place to take an antique painting frame to have a mirror put into it?

can anyone recommend--based on personal experience--a framing shop in the camberville area that does high quality framing without charging more than the work is worth?

thanks for any suggestions.
