From their e-mail newsletter: "Stop by J.P. Licks and get a FREE small ice cream or yogurt cone or cup, all day, on Tuesday, September 16th! All you have to do is show us your college I.D."

So, there are volunteers handing out stickers for Carl Sciortino everywhere (whee! go volunteers!).

But, if you want to write in Thomas B. Concannon (8 Bacon Road, Newton) for Register of Probate because of the John R. Buonomo indictment situation, it behooves you to bring your own pen. The markers for connecting the arrows are too thick a point to write his name, nevermind his address.

So, I suggest bringing a nice ball point!

Since it's election day, and there are several contested races around here and a couple of them write-in / sticker campaigns, I'm curious to hear people's voting anecdotes/stories. How were things at the polls?

I'm volunteering for Carl Sciortino all day today; I occasionally get a quiet moment to check LJ :)

A sign on the front window of Cibeline on Holland Street says they are closing in October. They will reopen on Charles Street in Boston.

From the Somerville News:

Trane concedes, Sciortino wins on stickers

By George P. Hassett

Carl Sciortino's name was not on the ballot yet he still managed to hold onto his state rep. seat today, defeating challenger Bob Trane on a sticker campaign.

A few minutes ago at the Sons of Italy in Medford, Trane conceded the race and told cheering supporters, "We went up against a machine and fought the good fight."

Early unofficial returns point to a Sciortino victory. With seven precincts reporting, he led Trane 1,780 votes to 1,472, according to unofficial results.

A jogger was reportedly grabbed and pushed up against a wall around 10:30 pm last Wednesday night. Fortunately, she was able to get away. This happened on the pedestrian stairs that go under the commuter rail tracks, on Sacramento St. past Beacon.

According to today's Boston.com article, which unlike most of the other reports described it as a sexual assault, it wasn't reported to police until Monday. On Monday night Somerville and Cambridge police each put out a robo-call to area residents, and there were several news reports about it today.

From Wbztv.com:
"The suspect is described as a 40-year-old white man about 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet tall, 180 pounds with a medium build. Police say the suspect has light brown, lengthy and slightly curly hair. At the time of the attack, he was wearing jeans and a baseball cap and was riding an old looking bike."

Someone ditched a bicycle in my driveway about a week ago. At first I thought it belonged to the folks downstairs, but when I asked about it, they said it wasn't theirs. I called the S'ville Police this past Sunday to report it, but here it is Tuesday and it's still here. I live between Porter and Davis.

Considering all the bike thefts around here, I'm jumping to the conclusion that it was stolen and discarded. If you're missing a red 10-speed, get in touch.

We had a summer with only a handful of break-ins in the police blotter each week; few enough to count on the fingers of one hand. But last week there were 18. Car break-ins are up too.

July and August are usually the peak months for burglaries. Let's try not to have a peak in September.
