The American kitchen has evolved from a dark, private room at the back of the house to a bright, gleaming showplace that's often the social focus of a home. In Kitchen Stories, fourteen artists explore the highlights, low spots and dark corners of this complicated space. They tell stories about the social, economic and political aspects of the kitchen and, in doing so, they tell us stories about ourselves.

(will be putting out around 330pm)

large wooden armoire...
top portion has two doors that open from the sides, showing two shelves
bottom portion has two drawers.
has brass looking hardware on it

It's very nice, we just have no room for it.
can't find any pictures of it now...

please take it and give it a good home.

Cameron Avenue on the Cambridge side, near Mass Ave and the Minuteman Bike Trail.

They suck at dry-cleaning. Two weeks ago I took one of my favorite nice dresses to be dry-cleaned at Kirkland Cleaners (on Broadway, technically in Teele Sq.) and got it back this past week only to discover that they had completely faded the color on the dress (from purple to pink) and caused the color to bleed into the black areas in some locations.

Needless to say, I am very upset about this. So far, the manager is pretty much impossible to find. I am still waiting for him to call me. He is also only at the laundromat once a week and the clerks there are apparently not authorized to do anything without him.

Another friend of mine has had some shirts ruined by them as well. (I only wish I'd known that *before* I gave them one of my favorite dresses!)

Edit (9/23/2008): Yesterday the manager did in fact call me. He explained that since dry-cleaning is done in batches, he did not believe his process was at fault, because the other clothing in the batch came out fine. He offered to help me go back to the retail store (which in this case has closed) and get a refund for the poor quality of the dress. It sounded like this has happened to him before. I asked for my dress back without charge; he agreed and offered $20-$30 store credit on top of that, which I declined because I am not going back there again. He also mentioned that they do not do many fancy dresses. He sounded like a reasonable guy but I am still not going to trust my clothes to their process.

Dear Tufts Film Series:

Thank you so much for embracing Web 2.0. You have 2 separate web sites (with different content), a blog, a Google calendar, a Facebook page and entries on Tuftslife.com.

Now, can you make the content coordinated across all the platforms?

Thanks,

Your BFF at Boston Free Films.

The very good news is that Film Series has provided the actual movies playing in each slot for the rest of the semester. They have also moved some of their Sunday movies to 8 pm rather than the standard 2 pm. Here's to hoping that they actually are able to keep to the published schedule.

Several films at Tufts this week, including a new time for "The Diving Bell & the Butterfly" tonight at 8 pm and the beginning of a semester long Monday night German film series at the German House.

I'm giving a recital with a couple friends this Saturday, Sept. 27 at 8:00. I'll be singing two sets of songs by Francis Poulenc: Le Travail de Peintre (Works of Painters) and Chansons Gaillardes (Bawdy Songs), with piano accompaniment. A flautist friend will perform a fantasy on themes from Bizet's Carmen, and a work called called "Pan's Flute," also with piano accompaniment. It's going to be a beautiful program.

The recital will be at First Congregational Church of Somerville, 89 College Ave., and following the recital there will be a reception in Duhamel Hall downstairs.

Admission is free, but there will be a goodwill collection to support the music program at First Congregational Church.

Can anyone recommend a house cleaning service for a 2-bed condo in Somerville.

Looking for just the basics, 1-2 times per month, reasonable rates.
