NPR's Morning Edition just now ran a five-minute feature about Bowl & Board, and how the current economy is affecting its business. I don't know whether the segment will run again this morning, but you can read it and listen to it here.

Snow and Slutcracker
Dec. 19th, 2008 08:24 amAnyone know if Slutcracker's canceled for tonight? I've been checking their websites but they haven't updated with yes or no. I've got tickets, I want to see it, but I also want to not venture out this evening if I don't have to.
An e-mail from Gregory Jenkins of the Somerville Arts Council:
Despite the snow today, Friday, we are going to hold the Illuminations Tour on Saturday, the 20th, as planned. As with many of our events this year (i.e. ArtsUnion), we're going to move forward on holding the event in between anticipated storms. The weather Sunday evening doesn't look any better.
If you know of folks who are going on the tour, please pass along this information. Any new information will be on our answering machine--617.625.6600 ext. 2985
Also, if people are looking for tickets, given the weather, I'm sure some ticket holders may not show up; in that case, any empty seats will be available a few minutes before each tour. But obviously, we cannot guarantee availability of seats.
Also, on behalf of the staff and board, I want to thank you--the community--for another successful and supportive year of work. I hope everyone has a peaceful holiday season.
Thanks, Greg

large bags of ice
Dec. 19th, 2008 12:57 pmWhere can I buy large (10-20 lb) bags of ice?
EDIT: Acme Ice had 40 lb bags for $10 - such a bargain! Thanks for helping my new-to-Somerville-and-google-challenged ass out of a jam. Driving across town was WAAAAY easier than collecting "free range" ice on the back porch.

Davis Square business donations
Dec. 19th, 2008 01:00 pmI'm putting together a benefit concert for my Avon Walk team which is going to take place at the VFW in Davis Square in a couple of months. I'd love to have a raffle with prizes donated from several of the local businesses. You will get some publicity, help out a good cause, and even get a nice tax write off :).
I know several local businesses read this list and if you would like to donate an item (like a gift certificate or merchandise) please email me at anomie666(at)gmail.com. Also, if you are an individual or a business outside of Davis Square that has some new items that you would love to give away to help me, I'd also take them too!
I'll be writing some more formal letters to some of the businesses soon.

Illuminations ticket available
Dec. 19th, 2008 01:03 pmDue to other obligations being snow-delayed, I'm going to have to skip the Illuminations tour tomorrow night at the last minute.
Since I know it's sold out, I wondered if anyone might want my ticket: it's for Trolley B at 7:30. If you'd be able to pay me back the $10, that would be great, or even part of it. But even if not, maybe someone who still wants to go would like a guaranteed ticket rather than having to wait and hope for a seat.
You'd have to pick the ticket up in the Davis Square area some time tomorrow- please let me know if interested, so we can sort when and where out off list.

What to do during a snow emergency?
Dec. 19th, 2008 01:15 pmMy plans for tonight got canceled due to the snow emergency and I was wondering what (if anything) is open in the Davis Square (or within walking distance) such as bars and restaurants etc. Do the bars typically stay open?
Illuminations Tour stuff
Dec. 19th, 2008 01:28 pmYarg, thanks to the weather in Boston likely to cause flight delays or cancellations, and the existing delays and cancellations at the Vegas airport, there's no way I am going to get back to Logan in time to be a trolley guide.
I am really sorry about this. (Although, not all that sorry that I have to suffer here in sunny Phoenix.)
Although, I wouldn't put it past the arts council to get Someone Important to cover for my two trolleys. However, if you bought one of my time slots explicitly because it was my trolley (I'm looking at you,
hauntmeister ) let me know and I can try to figure out a way to make it up to you when I get back.

Christmas Carolers
Dec. 19th, 2008 08:47 pmI just had about 20 Christmas Carolers outside my house singing a song to me in Santa hats...anyone else have this happen? They are going down my road ringing random doorbells singing. It was really nice to see in the storm :D
