We have two trees on the sidewalk in front of our house. They have grown a lot over the years, and now they need trimming since the branches are hitting the power lines. Does anyone know whether we can call any trimming service we like? Do we have to call the city or need any permission? Does the city have to take care of it? If not, can the expense be deducted from MA or Fed taxes?... Anyone else with this problem?

I would like to find a place I can go to buy tempered custom size glass. My grandmother said there is a place in Somerville but she cant remember the name. I have been searching as I drive around but have come up with nothing. Has anyone heard of a business that does this?

So I was curious if anyone has heard stories of employers taking advantage of their employees' fears of losing their job.

My employer recently pulled a last minute cancellation of our Presidents Day paid holiday. A blatant disregard for our employment contracts, but nonetheless, everyone is too afraid of losing their job to say much. I'm sure other companies are doing even worse things.

Hello all,

I recently returned some things to Greenward (the environmentally-themed store on Mass Ave) too late for a cash refund, so I have $66 on a gift card. Yours for $60. If you've never been to Greenward, it's a cute little store and they have some really nifty things there (I returned some wheel-powered LED lights for my bicycle because they weren't going to fit around my cargo rack).

Somerville Arts Council annouces ArtBeat 2009: July 17 & 18.

2009 theme: Somerville...Of the Future

What will Somerville look like in ten years? One hundred years? A million years? Will the Green Line whiz through the ‘ville? Will Spanish be more widely spoken than English? Will a martian be mayor? We will we evolve or devolve? Will our city sit submerged under the Atlantic -- thanks to global warming? Visual artists might exlore what art will look like in 100 years, when digital art has become passé. Architects and alternative energy enthusiasts might create futuristic windmills or give geo-thermal demos. A documentary filmmaker might explore how corporations and chains will shape our future—in Somerville and beyond. A dance troupe may choose to explore post-apocalyptic Somerville. The only limit is your imagination. Your proposals boldly should go where no one has gone before!

CRAFT VENDOR APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE AT: http://www.somervilleartscouncil.org/programs/artbeat/index.html

Applications due March 30, 2009.

Has anyone been to the new Planet Fitness in Porter? I can't quite tell from looking around online if it's open yet, but if it is, have you been? How was it? And if it's not, does anyone when it is opening?

Thanks!
