I know there's a lot of previous posts on tax accountants, but I got myself in a bit of a situation with the IRS, and I think I should at least consult with a lawyer about it. Anyone have a local recommmendation for those type of services?

Anyone see what was going on outside CVS last night? There was an MBTA bus pulled over and two cop cars and maybe a truck? Didn't seem like anyone was hurt, because there was no ambulance, but it seemed to go on for a while. Couldn't tell, but it seemed like some people might have been having an argument of some sort.

Anyone know what was going on?

Here's the skinny:
We live in an apt in Somerville (upstairs in a two-family). We have a rather large yard and a rather absent landlord. A working lawnmower is present and the "nice guy" in me has been mowing the lawn since we moved in, even though there is no mention of lawn care in the lease. Prior tenants downstairs have helped out, but the new tenants want nothing to do with it. Google searches have turned up little in terms of who's ultimately responsible. I'm debating whether to approach her and request a monthly rent reduction ($100?) for the months in which lawn-care is necessary. Before I have the conversation with the landlord, does anyone have any insight on tenant's rights regarding lawn care/maintenance? I'm looking for a leg to stand on. If not, anyone aware of the going rate for simple mowing? Thanks!

I just received a robocall from the City informing me that the street construction slated for Tuesday had to be moved up and will happen tomorrow, so move the cars, etc. The thing is, we were not notified that any construction was pending at all and, until a half hour ago when a DPW truck came through to put some up, there wasn't a single sign concerning *any* construction, so nobody knew we even had to move the cars by Tuesday AM, let alone in the next 11 hours.

I called 311 to let them know that no signs had been put up and also to ask where I could find the info (including the list of streets) on the web site (because I couldn't find it) so that I could forward it to y'all and was told that it's not there. (I did find a list of streets slated for reconstruction in 2009, but ours isn't actually on it.)

[Updated] Thanks to Ron for getting them all down, this is now the complete list of affected streets as per the message, only a couple of which are in the Davis Square area, but I'm including them all for your info:

Ash Ave
Austin St
Bowdoin St
Farragut Ave
Fremont Ave
Lowell Terrace
Maine Ave
Maine Terrace
Westminster St

But that list is incomplete, so when you have a moment, you may want to look out the window and see if there are any new signs on your street. According to the message, there will be neither parking nor access tomorrow, so if your street is affected and you need to use your car, make sure it's parked somewhere else and not trapped in your driveway.

I noticed very heavy police activity on and around Simpson ave around 7:00PM tonight. Several unmarked cruisers, marked patrol cars, state police vehicles, and police on foot. They seemed to be around for at least an hour or so and were very clearly looking for someone.

Just a few minutes ago (10:00ish), my wife and I heard two gunshots which sounded as if they had come from the Broadway area. The police said they had gotten reports of shots from Wallace street and sure enough there seem to be multiple cruisers around the area again.

Anyone in the area get the lowdown from the cops this evening? I'm not usually this nosy, but I wish that I had asked. Nothing on the local news sites.
