Community Sing Along at the Growing Center 6/20

Friends of the Growing Center will be hosting an all-ages Community Sing Along at the Growing Center on 6/20 from 5-7pm. We will be doing selections from the Rise Up Singing songbook - traditional and contemporary songs we all know and love. Bring food, blankets, drums, guitars, tambourines, friends, neighbors, etc. A splendid time is guaranteed for all! Donations accepted.

The Growing Center is just outside Union Square on Vinal Ave, between Highland Ave and Summer Street.

The SHC Office is in the basement of One Davis Square -- the building with CVS and Boston Sports Club. The building entrance is on the right side (Dover Street) across from Mr. Crepe.

We're right by the Davis Square T-stop on the red line, as well as the following bus lines: 87, 88, 89, 90, 94, 96.

Municipal Offices Closed on Bunker Hill Day, Wed 6/17; School and Trash Pickup Schedules Unchanged

Please note that, despite the Bunker Hill Day holiday on Wednesday, June 17th, trash and recycling pickup will continue on its regular schedule throughout the week.

Public schools will be open Wednesday on their regular schedules, but municipal offices will be closed.

Somerville is the only community in Middlesex County to celebrate this This holiday, which commemorates the Battle of Bunker Hill in Charlestown on June 17, 1775. At the time the battle was fought and for another sixty-seven years thereafter, the area that became the City of Somerville was part of Charlestown and of Suffolk County, which is why our city joins in the remembrance of this significant event in the founding of our nation.

New crosswalk on PHB and Leonard

A few weeks ago, a crosswalk appeared there overnight. Most days since then, a speed trap also usually appears.

Keep your speed down on Powder House Blvd, folks.

I guess the upshot is that this might deter the assholes that go the wrong way on Leonard.
