I know the meetup was a week ago, but I'm just now getting around to posting this!  I had fun meeting many of you guys at the DSLJ meetup at the Burren last week.

The cat my roommate and I found a couple weeks ago is still unclaimed and we cannot keep her any longer. So, is anyone in the market for a youngish female cat that is already litter box trained? She has all her claws still and is fairly independent (likes to curl up on your bed, but not on you, etc). The vet we took her to to check for a chip told us that she was not a kitten anymore, but not very old. Maybe under two years?
Please let me know, we really don't want to see her in a shelter/cage anywhere.
Maybe if you aren't interested you know someone who is?

advice - roofing contractor is giving me heartburn

the roofing contractor i hired almost 5 years ago is declining to honor his warranty: he installed a drip edge badly and it's channeling water *inside* my exterior wall, rather than *away* from it.  what with all the rain the past 4 weeks, there's been a bunch of damage to a wall and floor in my house.  my first inclination is to file a dispute with the Better Business Bureau, but that's mostly because i'm not sure what other options i have.  if the dude just came by and stopped the water pouring in whenever it rains, i'd cut my losses and let the damage slide, but he won't even return my calls, which makes me want to wring him for the repair cost.

anyone feel like sharing their experiences resolving a situation like this ?  got any advice ?

and, can anyone recommend a roofing contractor ?  (if you say "squillante", i'm going to give you some bad news...)

Spring has sprung! Make sure that Mother Nature isn't creating cover for crooks by clearing brush near your foundations and basement windows, and don't store gardening equipment and supplies where they could provide cover for a burglar.

Somerville Coffee Party -- first meeting

We're hosting the first meeting of the Somerville Coffee Party this Thursday at 7:00, and we want to invite you to join. The idea of the Coffee Party is that we deserve better government -- and we can make that happen by being better citizens.

 

Our political problems are worse -- measurably worse -- than they used to be. Worse in terms of polarized voters. Worse in terms of money buying elections. Worse in terms of stalled legislation and broken government.

 

If our problems have gotten worse, they can get better, too. We can talk to each other, instead of fearing each other. We can build cleaner, fairer election systems. We can hold our politicians accountable when they stall and score points instead of governing.

 

We're going to get together and find strategies to fix our democracy, and then we're going to put them into action. Bring your ideas and your energy. Join us.
