This weekend, our neighboring town of Arlington has a fireworks display over Spy Pond on Friday night, followed by a general street party called 'Town Day' on Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm. The Saturday event takes place on Mass. Ave. between Pleasant and Jason streets in Arlington Center.

If you like Somerville ArtBeat and the Cambridge River Festival, you'll probably enjoy Arlington Town Day too.

Full info is here and here.

Hey y'all:

I apologize if this has been posted before, but it looks like Suneri is closing on Sunday the 16th (this Sunday). They're having a "Final Sale" all weekend, and according to their email, merchandise is up to 80% off.

Also, it looks like a new store will be opening in its place in October: whats-nu. You can learn more at www.whats-nu.biz. As a very, very passing glance, it looks like a store front for local artists? Or for an artists' collective? Does anyone have any more info?

OK, just an FYI!!

Exciting! Somerville Open Studios will be marching in the Honk! Parade, Sunday, October 7.

Get Involved: If you're an SOS artist, or a supporter of SOS, and want to march with us, please contact our SOS-Parade-Marshal, Terry Dovidio at terrydovidio [at] gmail [dot] com right away. We need a few people to take shifts in carrying our banner and our "walking floats" and others to carry orange SOS balloons. Get Involved with New England's largest community of artists!

Save the Date: We're excited to announce our graphic artist for 2013: James Weinberg.
Check out our new Save the Date cards for distribution this fall. Did you know SOS is only 33 weekends away? We have lots of work to do between now and then, and fortunately, also, an awesome community of artists to do it.

Thanks everyone!

I asked on their Facebook page, and got back this answer:

"The grand opening for the Cambridge store is scheduled for October 7, 2012."

ETA 9/19: But the sign outside the store says it will open on Friday, October 5.

Boston Free Radio, your friendly member-run Internet radio station over in Union Square, is having its fall orientation for new radio hosts on Monday, Sept. 17 from 8-10pm.  Anyone who is a Mass. resident is welcome to become a member and host a show -- no experience necessary!  We operate as a service of Somerville Community Access Television -- our studios are in the SCATV building at 90 Union Square.

We encourage all our hosts to create whatever kind of show they like -- there are no FCC regulations so it really is free speech radio!  We provide training to use the station's equipment and software, and we work with hosts to develop ideas for their programs and ways to build listenership.

We're looking for people to do recorded programs as well as live shows in the studio, so even if you can't commit to a live program at a fixed time every week you can still host a show!  Podcasts and other recorded series are welcome.  Come to the orientation on Monday and find out more!

There was a desk.
We don't have it any more.

Here is a desk.
We don't want it any more.

We would love to get some money for it; the glass-slab alone cost over $100 when we bought it 15 years ago. I have no idea what it would cost now. The desk was all fancy and modern and stuff, 15 years ago.

$60 is realistically the most we could hope to get for it if we were patient people. which we are not.
$40 would still be pretty reasonable.
$30 would at least buy us a couple movie tickets and some beer to go with that.
If we still have it by Monday, we'll take $20 for it. This would be a huge shame, since the glass alone is quite a hunk of material.

P1030212

30" x 30" x 60"; glass top tempered 3/8" glass (very heavy. very sturdy.)
the desk part disassembles neatly, but the slab of glass is a large, heavy, slab of glass.
I have a minivan, though, so if you buy it at the $50 level I'll drive it to your Somerville or North Cambridge home. Otherwise, you can come pick it up just off Willow.

Chair and Godzilla for scale only (not included).
