I wasn't able to make it out to the Davis Square snow extravaganza saturday since my door was actually snowed shut! A friend of mine took this picture of a snow tortoise. I posted it on my blog ( Tort-time)  & would love to give the creator credit for this awesome snow shell. Thought maybe someone here might know who made it and/or who the other turtle/ tortoises lovers in the area are?? :)

just got this e-mail:

Hello, this is Jackie Rossetti from the City of Somerville with important snow emergency-related information for Monday, February 11th. Due to high snow accumulations and ongoing work to clear public streets and walkways, and the forecast for more potential snow events this week, the City’s snow emergency will REMAIN IN EFFECT UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. Residents may continue to park in municipal or school lots until the snow emergency is lifted.

Trash and recycling pickup schedules will continue as normal this week. DPW and contracted crews will continue to clear snow around-the-clock over the next week, including removing high snow banks that impair visibility, as well as at bus stops and crosswalks.

To ensure safety of all residents, particularly children during this time, school has been canceled through Wednesday. More information and updates will be available via the City website, Facebook page and Twitter feeds, which can be found at http://www.somervillema.gov/socialmedia. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we work to ensure safety and accessibility throughout the City.

I've got a UK investment that doesn't really line up with anything in US tax code, and so I need some professional advice on figuring out how it ought to be declared. Any recommendations in the local area?

I'm planning to attend this event on Thursday evening! I'm posting on behalf of Chelsea Clarke, the event organizer. I apologize for not posting sooner so more people could plan to go to the dance rehearsal. Here's Chelsea's message:

We are organizing an event called "Somerville Rising", and we want you to join in!

"One Billion Rising" is an event organized internationally by noted activist Eve Ensler, author of the "Vagina Monologues."

Somerville will be doing a FLASH MOB in Davis Square at 7pm on Thursday, February 14th, in solidarity with communities against violence against women around the whole world. If you can’t dance, come anyway! There will be poetry, women speaking about their experiences, and community connection. Wear black, red and/or pink.

We could really use your help in getting the word out about this event. If you could forward this message on to any listservs or local groups you're part of, that would be wonderful. We have no men signed up to attend yet, and we would love the support and participation of lovely Somerville men so much.

check the Facebook page
https://www.facebook.com/events/434341386634424/
for the most up to date information and announcements, or to otherwise get involved. Make sure to RSVP "Yes" to the event, and be sure to invite your friends, as well.

Finally, if you want to be part of the flash mob portion of the event, we just scheduled a flash mob dance rehearsal on Monday, February 11th at 7:00pm. Location is First Church Somerville, 89 College Avenue. We wil be in the parlor (upstairs, at the front of the sanctuary. Follow the signs!) But don't sweat it if you can't make it, we'll teach you the day of the event! Please invite your friends, spread the word!

Please contact me if you have any questions! I'm a bit scrambling with publicity (this is quite a last minute grassroots thing), so if you feel moved and you'd like to help me, please drop a line!

Best,
Chelsea

I hope to see many of you Thursday! -- Masha

Dark frame, elastic band, pinkpurple lens. Somewhere on the trek from east-of-Davis toward Union Square. The person they belong to is going to read this post and wonder why I didn't tell them sooner...
