Yep. We usually get three such occasions a year -- Tuftonia's Day in April, the Somerville city fireworks a few days before July 4, and Arlington Town Day in September.
Speaking of noise coming from Tufts, Saturday is the annual Spring Fling concert on the President's Lawn. The featured band is OK Go. It's a Tufts-only ticketed event, but you can easy stand/sit across Professors Row and listen. It's a dry event this year (last year led to the City of Somerville declaring it a mass casualty event because of the volume of alcohol-related calls), so it *may* be better behaved (or not).
Here's the posted tentative schedule (the other bands are student groups):
Spring Fling 2010 Schedule 12:00 pm Gates Open 12:45 pm Sam Adams 2:00 pm Drake 3:30 pm OK Go
BTW, Ron: have you ever considered a "Tufts" tag? If Sound Bites has one, then we probably need one for the biggest employer in the neighborhood.
The 'tufts' tag is probably a good idea. Surprisingly, they don't seem to show up much in DSLJ, other than your movie series posts and the annual fireworks posts.
I added a 'tufts' tag, and did some retrotagging, using the new LJ search facility to find some recent posts that mention Tufts. You may want to go back and do more retrotagging, as I eventually got lazy and stopped.
