Parking while moving?

I'm moving to East Somerville on August 1, which is a Sunday. I'll be all set for parking that day, obviously, and the first thing I plan on doing Monday morning is going to get a parking pass for my car.

I've been thinking and thinking of ways to keep from getting ticketed over Sunday night into Monday morning and I'm coming up empty. Does anyone have any suggestions? Can I apply for the "resident moving into Somerville" parking pass before I actually move?

According to the city web site, there is a special permit at no charge.

"Massachusetts Resident Moving into Somerville (7 days) no charge
This pass allows time for the new resident to acquire a change of vehicle registration to Somerville and obtain a parking permit for their new location.

Out-of-State Resident Moving into Somerville (14 days) no charge
This pass allows time for the new resident to acquire a change of vehicle registration to Somerville and obtain a parking permit for their new location."

I saw that - I guess my question is whether I can apply for that pass before I actually move or not. I suppose the thing to do is to just go the Friday before and give it a try.

We moved last June and I believe we got the temporary permit a few days before we moved. I think you just need to bring a copy of your lease to the Traffic & Parking Office [in addition to your vehicle registration]. I remember it being really easy. :-]

I got an Out-of-State one about a week before I moved. As long as you have your lease and registration you should be golden :)
