I'm moving to East Somerville on August 1, which is a Sunday. I'll be all set for parking that day, obviously, and the first thing I plan on doing Monday morning is going to get a parking pass for my car.

I've been thinking and thinking of ways to keep from getting ticketed over Sunday night into Monday morning and I'm coming up empty. Does anyone have any suggestions? Can I apply for the "resident moving into Somerville" parking pass before I actually move?

I have absolutely nothing to say about parking, but I just had to say that I LOVE your icon. It's just so striking; it shows fencing at it's best, both athleticism and grace.

I used to fence in high school, sorry. :) But, seriously-- amazing icon.

except that that far forward of a lunge (the kneecap is in front of the ankle), is bad form and damaging to the knee.

That, I buy.

Mind you, when I fenced, I'm sure my form sucked more in lunges.

This may be why my knees hurt when I run.

Ahh, true. Not to mention they are leaning way, way too far forward (with their torso facing downward, at least), and WAY too much weight is on their front foot, so there's little hope for a balanced recovery. And it's far too off balance to be the start of a flèche, as well. But, for its artistic structure, I still like the picture. :)

You can always start fencing again

Wow, they have rates for dropping in?? That's amazing. Most places I've seen have fees of $600+, which is way too much for me, but with drop-in days, it might be possible to stop by and see if I want to pick it up again. That's an amazing feature. I'll have to tell my fiance (who also used to fence) about that... we might just drop by. :)

You won't find a friendlier place to fence

Floor fees typically apply to non-club members who stop by to fence. Come take a "test-drive" on an open fencing night - we have equipment to borrow - and A/C blowing. Wednesday night is open fencing for epee (the most popular weapon at the club).

You will find a LOT of ex-collegiate and high school fencers, some amazing current and past competition winners, some married couples, a grandma or two and a bunch of people trying to cathartically bury their points in each other.

We have a number of members from the Davis. Sq. area.

That's AMAZING. Personally, I fenced foil or sabre, and my fiance fenced foil, but I'll have to mention it to him. We both loved the sport, but it's tricky to find someplace to fence that doesn't charge astronomical fees. And since we're not in a situation where we know we'd be fencing three times a week, that was just unfeasible. But this?? Amazing. Really, I'm so excited.

I have my own gear (though my old foil needs to be retired, poor thing), but my fiance doesn't, so borrowing equipment would be perfect (does that include jackets, masks and gloves?). And since we're getting married in a couple months, the cathartic point-burying isn't too much of a stretch. :) We've never actually fenced one another, so. That might have to happen. :D

Thank you SO much for the suggestion; I'm definitely going to have to look into this.

Yeah, it's amazing. And the images from the sport are just phenomenal.
