Ten immigrant run Somerville restaurants are participating in the 2012 YUM: A Taste of Immigrant City. The YUM Restaurant Card is available now online for $10, and early bird tickets for the event at the Armory on April 25 are $35. It's all a benefit for The Welcome Project, a Somerville nonprofit that works with the city's immigrant communities, offering English classes and programs for youth from immigrant families.

Participating restaurants are: Istanbul'lu (Turkish), Masala (Indian & Nepali), Sabur (Mediterranean), Maya Sol (Mexican), Amelia's Kitchen (Italian), Ronnarong Thai Tapas Bar (Thai), Aguacate Verde (Mexican), Yak & Yeti (Indian and Nepali), Churrasco (Brazilian), and Fasika (Ethiopian).

Get your tickets and purchase your YUM Restaurant Card at www.yumsomerville.org.

We also invite sponsorships and program book ads. Contact me for more information: warren@welcomeproject.org

Masala in Teele Square was added after the YUM! cards were printed. It replaces Namaskar which has closed.

Are the cards for sale at any local stores or restaurants? (I bought mine from your table at TEDx)

You should add Masala to this page, which doesn't currently list it.

I just want to make a pitch for Aguacate Verde, in the former Casa Lupita on Elm between Porter near the laundramat and Starbucks. I know its outside the Davis realm, but its on this YUM card and I went in the other day after sneering for many days about their too-big new sign. I exited all full of love for the place. It's owned by a really nice Peruvian woman Silvia, with another woman cooking when I was there, and their specific focus is to show that fast Mexican food can be healthier- their refried beans were tasty but without the lard, they use fresh avocadoes a lot etc. Besides, they have a cheesy animated sombrero-wearing avocado on their website.

Also if you go to their website www.aguacateverderestaurant.com and fill in the very brief 'healthy eating' survey you can get a free taco.
