Street party and fireworks on Broadway, Thursday 6/28

The City of Somerville will have a fireworks display at Trum Field, this Thursday night around 9:15. Preceding it will be a street party with musical entertainment on Broadway, starting at 6:30.

There will be no parking on Cedar Street from 8 am to midnight, or on Broadway between Ball and Magoun Squares from 4 pm to midnight. This section of Broadway will be CLOSED, with buses #80 and #89 rerouted into South Medford.

when birds attack...

just a wee warning to those passing through the powderhouse square area - there are a few mockingbirds (i think) that have built nests in this area, and they are quite insane in their quest to protect them.  i have been attacked twice this week when passing through the walkway area in the center of the rotary (nearest the funeral home) by a crazed bird, and i also witnessed a bird attack a dog over by the bus shelter by broadway.  it doesn't really hurt, just some pecking, but it sure scared the crap out of me, and anyone with children in particular might want to avoid these areas.

propane tank for gas grill?

does anyone know of a local place to get a propane tank refilled or exchanged for a full one?? OTHER than Home Depot? They have been out of tanks for several days now.  I keep thinking there's gotta be another option out there??  Thanks!

I read lots comments about pro-mayor this and anti-maor that, and there appear to be a good number of contested races in the city this election cycle. Anyone care to enlighten me (and hopefully others) on what the sweep of citywide politics looks like from where you sit, and maybe a little of the history that went into it? Major points of contention? Anywhere I can read more? Thanks in advance.

Subaru Repairs?

I suppose I'm asking a bit after the fact.

My car (Subaru Legacy Outback) broke down last night and I had it towed to the closest place: Teele Square Auto.

To put this in context, I am 29 years-old and I've never had a car break down on me (my own father said, "Wow, you had a good run there!"). Does anyone have any experience with Teele Square Auto? I checked the archives and couldn't find anything about it.

I saw recommendations for ABJ and some dealership in Belmont. In case I get a load of malarkey from these guys in the morning tomorrow -- any other recommendations?

I'm worried that they'll see that I've had my car towed there and figure that they've got me by the you-know-what and can charge me whatever they want. I want to pay less than whatever they want, obviously.
