No notification yet from the city on whether/when the snow emergency will be lifted. Safe to move my car y/n?? Discuss.

We're all probably sick of shovelling already, but if you haven't yet taken a few minutes to dig out any fire hydrants and storm drains near your place of residence or business, please consider doing so. Thanks.

Edit: [livejournal.com profile] ron_newman also points out that clearing a pedestrian path at the crosswalk if you live on a corner is just darn nice.

The City of Somerville has lifted its snow emergency, as of 11:00 a.m.
Friday.  Residents parked in city lots during the snow emergency have a
two-hour window starting at that time in which to move their vehicles.
Cars still parked in municipal or school lots at 1:00 p.m. are subject to
ticketing and towing.  Residents, landlords and business owners are
required by city regulations to shovel their sidewalks but may not shovel
snow into the street. For more information please dial 311 (617-666-3311
outside Somerville), or visit Www.ci.somerville.ma.us.

There are folks in this community who've indicated that they're up for some good-sam shovelling.

There are also folks who've indicated that they may need some help getting stuff clear.

It's a neighborhood. Let's be neighborly.

If you need a hand, or can help, say where you're at.

I'm on the corner of Milton and Orchard. Anyone within about a block of there who'd like a hand when i get home from work this evening, give a holler.

I am going to catch a lot of flak for this, but I actually wanted to (gasp!) thank the City of Somerville for their relatively good work at clearing most of the roads last night.

I observed the roads in Somerville to be much clearer than the roads just across the border in Cambridge, in particular Mass Ave.

This isn't a knock on Cambridge, but from the warmth of my house, I was able to observe the DPW trucks making repeated rounds last evening keeping the roads open in case they were needed.

Snow plow?

Can anyone recommend a reputable snow plow or shovel service in Davis Square? Thanks so much, and enjoy the winter weather!

Help us tour guides out.
Recommend some of the better Somerville holiday displays that probably won't be on the Illuminations Tour.
(The map does suggest that the route has changed in a few spots this year, but, it's still no nearer to Davis. Mostly to keep the tour under an hour).

Lowden Ave. is pretty bright this year. Hall St. Ave. has at least one big display. As does Grove.

Lexington Ave. is usually pretty awesome, although I haven't managed to see if the Palm Trees are up yet.
Has the big display on Rogers Ave. just stopped happening?

I'm not sure how late I'll be able to check here for your recommendations, but probably at least once after 12 noon tomorrow.

thank you!
