Can I just put my mattress out for trash pickup or do I need to do it on a specific day?

I generally buy my lenses on-line cuz it's cheaper, but need to update my prescription. Most of the previous discussion seems to focus on who has good product available (esp a good selection of glasses frames). I don't need that, just someone who will examine my eyes quickly and cheaply. I'm carless, so within 5 miles bike ride of Davis or on the Red Line is preferable. I went to Harvard Vanguard last time, but wasn't really impressed with either the service or the prices (of course, that was nearly two years ago, things may have changed).

One of my go-to theaters has failed me horribly. I'm trying to find a midnight showing of Harry Potter for Wednesday (Tuesday night, I guess). Does anyone know of anywhere that is showing it at midnight? I'd be happy with somewhere a little out of the city, too (I was going to head all the way to Lawrence, so). We've got a car, so somewhere with parking (and stadium seating!) is preferred. So far I've completely struck out. Is it anywhere?

So, help me, Potterfolk!! You're my only hope!!!

[Modly types: not quite sure how to tag this, so it's just under "news" for now. Feel free to change, or tell me what to use.]

How much money would be saved if, as Ron suggested, police in Somerville (or MA) stopped pursuing victimless crimes involving drugs? Does anyone know if  such a proposal is being discussed seriously anywhere? Excuse my ignorance...

[forwarded from   Rachel Strutt  at Somerville Arts Council]

Hi Everyone,

The ArtBeat festival is happening this weekend in Davis Square.

We still need many volunteers for SATURDAY, JULY 18th.

If you've enjoyed the festival over the years, please consider giving us just a few hours of your time. We have a staff of just 2 right now and putting together a giant festival is quite an endeavor. The reason the festival has been successful over the years is because amazing people like you volunteer!!!  If you have dependable friends, ask them to help out, too!

If you can lend us a hand, you'll get:

1) our eternal gratitude.
2) a fun, social experience.
3) a FREE ARTBEAT TEE SHIRT for a 3 hour shift.

Here are a few shifts/jobs where we definitely need help on Sat., July 18th.

Set-up. 8-11am: Just 2 hours of your time will help us enormously!
Dog tag sales: 2:30pm-6pm: stroll around the festival and sell nifty artbeat dog tags for $3

Hi all, Reluctantly moving out of Somerville, but selling furniture before doing so! Items are all posted on Craiglist, but figured I would give everyone a heads-up. Most items are pick-up only, but for those who may be in the general area, I'd be happy to help load/unload items (into a larger vehicle you may have) from my house to yours for the heavy ones. Craigslist links to sofa, metal rack, wooden hutch, desk, spinning wooden rack and table and chairs after the cut. All prices are negotiable, so take a look. (Contact through Craigslist links please). Thank you! ExpandFurniture! )

Always wanted to know how to make a pair of steampunk goggles? How about a Victorian ball gown?

Please join us for an afternoon of tea and costuming at Cafe Pomplona (Harvard Square) from 1pm-3pm, this Saturday (7/18)! During the tea steampunk accessories and vintage reproduction clothing pieces will be shown and discussed. Come listen and learn about how historical clothing and steampunk garments, respectively, are created and can be worn fashionably on the street!

Guests are encouraged to bring any current costume or historical projects they are working on or have completed.  If you've sewed it, built it or glued it together, we want to see it!

Feel free to wear a costume or modern clothes. We'll be thrilled to see you either way.

Hope to see everyone there!
