After trying unsuccessfully to either sell or freecycle our TV, it is sitting on the curb outside our old apartment. If you'd like it, come get it. It's a 27" Hitachi, great picture, no remote.

Several years ago, a poster on this forum recommended his housekeeper to the community. That worked out really well for me, and so today I thought I'd do likewise.

Solange Machado (781-645-0133 office, 857-888-4638 cell) has been cleaning my house for about a year (she took over when Zilah Santos, who had been doing the job, took some time off for personal and family reasons). I recommend her to anyone who requires the services of a housekeeper without reservation; she's outstanding. She will use her own organic supplies, or yours if you prefer (in my place she used mine, since I had them). Shows up on time, does a great job, flexible with respect to hours. Solange herself doesn't speak English too well, and as a result her daughter Daisy does the scheduling, but they're a terrific team.

I have moved to a place where the current owner (my new housemate) already has a cleaner she likes, and so Solange will no longer be cleaning my house. She advises she is *definitely* looking for new business.

(ETA: My partners still use Solange, and they, too have been very happy with her).

I'm interested in learning French. I'd like to find an evening or weekend class that meets once or twice a week, and is reasonably fast-paced. (I know a few languages, and tend to pick them up quickly.)

Can anyone recommend such a class?

Thanks!

Ellen Schneider from the city sent out a message yesterday announcing that the renovation at Hodgkins-Curtin Park is finally starting for real. The playground area will close after Labor Day; the field will be open a bit longer. Read more... )

Mo Lotman, who lives in Somerville, has finished a photo book on the history of Harvard Square named "Harvard Square, An Illustrated History Since 1950" .  He will be having an official launch party at Passim on Tuesday, Sept. 15th from 7 pm to midnight.

You can learn more about the book at http://www.harvardsquarebook.com.

Disclaimer:  I know Mo, but have no financial stake in the success of his book or the rest of his life.
