Please join us on Monday January 11
for the FIRST-EVER SOMERVILLE FARM SHARE FAIR,
followed by a special film screening of "The Power of Community"

at the Somerville Public Library (79 Highland Ave)

::  SOMERVILLE FARM SHARE FAIR  :: 6PM - Free Admission
presented by Somerville Climate Action + Boston Localvores + Groundwork Somerville

Each year, local farms throughout the Greater Boston region offer weekly subscriptions to their delicious, fresh, and often-organic produce -- delivered right close to home.  But getting information on these shares (called CSAs, or community-supported agriculture) can be near-impossible.  This year, we're bringing all of the farms together in one place, so you can get the information you need to get signed up.  Bring in your checkbook to reserve a share!

::  THE POWER OF COMMUNITY  ::  7PM - Free Admission
presented by State Rep. Denise Provost + Transition Somerville

After the Soviet Union collapsed in 1990, Cuba faced catastrophic cuts in its oil and food supplies.  In the face of the crisis, creative communities came together to transition to a more sustainable path, through organic farming and urban gardening.  Their inspiring story offers hope for us all as we enter an era of rising fuel costs and impending global warming threats.  Please join us after the film for a brief discussion.

if, before i get up in five hours or so, you have a rec for a decent cab company and would like to leave the number in the comments, that would be swell.

i don't need anything fancy, i just need to get from arlington to cambridgeport in the late morning, paying cash, no luggage or critters or special setups. it's just that i always seem to have the WORST luck in just picking a number out of the yellow pages.

thanks!

Got a product, service, duplicate Christmas present, gift certificate, tickets, or anything else that someone else might enjoy more than you do? Need publicity for your business? Just sick and tired of people suffering from malnutrition right here in Massachusetts? Consider donating an auction prize to the Greater Boston Food Bank Super Hunger Month Online Auction! For every dollar they raise, they can offer $4 worth of food to hungry New Englanders. If that's not a tasty offer, I don't know what is!

linoleum

Hi all,

I'm looking for a piece of scrap of linoleum around 5'x5' to put under some cat boxes in the basement. Does anyone have anything like this lying around in their storage areas collecting dust that they would like to get rid of?

If not, does anyone know where I can get something like this for free in the area?

Thanks!

Waxing

In trying a find a waxer, I checked the memories and came across Priscilla at Skin & Body Works. Are they still open? I've been trying to call them all day, and all I get is a "full mailbox" notice.

Alternatively, any other recommendations for a good & preferrably cheap bikini/Brazilian waxer?

So, I just got the robocall from Tom Champion (tm) and it made me realize my parking permit may be out of date. It has a big "1" on it, that's the month right? Not some district or whatever. What I don't remember is whether it expires at the BEGINNING of the month, or the END of the month...

My inspection, which ALSO is this month needs to be done by the END of the month...

taxi update

just wanted to say thanks to everyone, i now have green cab saved in my phone as well.

i was picked up exactly on time (i called 45 minutes ahead of time to be safe, but was told by the driver if i didn't need to go to the airport and it wasn't a crazy holiday they could pick me up within about five minutes pretty much whenever, so no reservation necessary.) and yes, it was fine that i'm in arlington, as others pointed out.

it was the first cab in ages that a.) did not make me feel like i was on a rickety amusement park ride and b.) the driver didn't spend any of the ride talking on his cellphone. he made polite conversation and gave me a choice of route, an listened when i gave him directions. he also made sure both when picking up and dropping off i wasn't getting out in traffic, a pile of snow, etc.

anyways, i don't take cabs often so i'm glad this worked out so well, thanks again!
