ok, it's Porter, not Davis, but I figured since people (who forget to check the sites religiously, like me) like it when I post about neighbourhoodly groupons, I figured I'd mention Groupon is offering $20 for $40 of food/drinks at Tavern on the Square.

It can be used at any of the locations (Porter, Central, Salem), and covers food and drinks. There is no limit on the number you can buy for your own use (unlike Redbones, which was one per person), but you can only use one per table per visit.

Good morning!

Our household is looking for recommendations for dance studios for a ten year old girl.
She is interested in Modern, Hip-Hop and even a little bit of Latin Dance.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

So I'm looking for empty beer bottles for home brews. I simply dont drink enough to create enough empties. They dont need to be clean, but free of cigarette butts at least.

Need to be domestic and not twist off, so Sam, Harpoon, Redhook, Magic Hat, all the typical offenders and usually most of your smaller breweries too. 12 oz, 22 oz. 24 oz. flip tops, I'll take any sizes.

I'll pick up and pay your bottle deposit.

Lost and found posts are pretty common here, and they always irk me.

"I found xxx in a cab, let me know if its yours". Well, if I lost something, and I'm pretty sure it was in a cab, I'd call the cab company, not check LiveJournal. The sense of responsibility and community here is impressive and rare and heartwarming, but also often counterproductive.

So I got to thinking– should we designate some public space as an all-purpose lost and found? Say, if you find anything within a .5 mile radius of Davis Square, you'll drop it off at Diesel, or the Somerville Theatre or something. That way if I lose something, I'd only have to check one place, not every person I know, several school bulletin boards, several LJ communities and several Craigslist pages. Think some local business would be interested in this?

Any news on the IPOD FOUND? My son stayed at my mom's house in Davis Square the weekend of the two day storm (Jan 2 and 3) and did lose his IPOD. I'm not sure where he lost it, and this one found is probably not his, but it's worth a shot. He didn't register it, nor does he know what the serial number is, but his playlist is pretty unique...

Anyhow, I'd love to get it back if it is indeed his. If [livejournal.com profile] comicnrrd could look into this further, I'd appreciate it. You can email me directly at mominmudville at yahoo dot com. It'll save me from another $175.

Thanks.

has anyone had the green papaya salad at sweet chili? i'm curious to try it. i've never had it so i didn't want to order it from a place that might be Doing It Wrong.

i ordered take out from them last night (i needed so satiate a pad thai craving - not the best i've had but did the trick!) and a random memory popped into my head about the green papaya salad. i actually found the post, but it turns out that commenter was talking about a restaurant, not the dish.

also, they gave me a small (sauce-sized) container of a creamy substance with tapioca in it, a very pale greenish hue, with some yellow bits. it was sweet, and enjoyable, until the yellow bits which i thought might be mango turned out to be corn. wondering if this is some dessert/palate cleanser type thing and/or if it got in my bag by accident.

the yelp reviews didn't come up with anything, and i've long hated the fact that foodler does not give you any option to expand upon why you liked or didn't like a dish which makes their rating system pretty much useless.

somewhat related: mods, what is the difference between the 'dining' an 'restaurant' tags?

[by the way, the octopus appetizer special for sit down? don't be expecting calamari or sushi.]

Hey, Davis Square

I'm probably grasping at straws here, but just in case  -

On Friday, UPS allegedly dropped off a package in front of my house on Highland ave, near the corner of Willow and Highland, at 9:57 am.  They didn't bother to ring the doorbell.  The package is now missing.  All that was in it was my great grandmother's mandoline (the musical instrument, not the cooking implement).  It has very little monetary value, but great sentimental value, and I am hoping that it will turn up somewhere.  If you have any information that might lead to its recovery, or if you found it and would like to return it, no questions asked, please comment or send me a message at my lj name at gmail.com  Thank you.

ETA - Package appeared on my porch yesterday, none the worse for wear!  The UPS driver rang the bell this morning to deliver another package, and was sort of adorably flustered when I told him that it had come yesterday (he kept saying "Oh man, that's awesome!).  He had pretty clearly been upset that it went missing, and had been in contact with the powers that be.  He had an assistant that day, and thinks that person may have mis-delivered it.  So thanks, mystery good samaritan!  And thanks to DSLJ for the mixture of great advice and sympathy :)

Because we are having a bowling meetup in early Feb (the 6th), we will not be meeting in January. We will need a minimum number of attendees for the bowling meetup and so I want to make sure that everyone is jonzing for some sociability next month :).

There needs to be a minimum of 25 people and it is $9 per person paid in advance. Soon, info will be posted about this event, including how you can pay. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] plumtreeblossom for setting up this event!

I know its already been 2 months since our last meetup, but bowling will be soon!

Hey kids,
I'm working on a project and looking for red tulle for a dress. Anyone know anyplace in the area that may sell it? I tried Michaels Art supplies but all they had was white and off- white. Thanks!
