Does anyone know anything about the Somerville Arts Council's Art Prom? They have a thumbnail of a flyer on their site, but it can't be enlarged, and I can't find any other info either on their site or elsewhere.

I saw the other day that there is a new yoga place where yoga in the square was. Does anyone know their website information? A google search came up empty.

Thanks!

This is the 1 week reminder post to let you know that we are having a meetup on Tuesday the 25th at the Burren. We normally meet at 7pm in the back room, but I found out that the Mayor is having a party in the back room from 6pm till 8pm. For this month, we will meet in the front room at 7pm and can move to the back room when it opens up (a little past 8pm).

The Mayor is crashing our party.

This isn't the first time that the mayor has came to one of our meetups and didn't know it. He once showed up with 4 members of an Italian Celtic band at PJ Ryans.

7:00 p.m.

RSVP deadline: Friday May 21, 2010

free!

Join us for services and a dairy/vegetarian Shabbat dinner followed by a class on Yiddish folk music taught by Ruth Bork. Dinner and the class are free, but * * you must register by May 21! * * RSVP to registrar@thehav.org or 617-623-3376. We regularly provide dairy-free and gluten-free options at dinner. But if you have specific food needs, let us know asap. Services at Havurat Shalom are egalitarian, lay-led and usually involve a lot of singing.

Yiddish Folk Music

We will learn about several types of Yiddish folk songs and their functions by examining and singing some songs. It is possible that recordings of songs will be played; anyone for whom this would be a concern should check in earlier in the week (r.bork@neu.edu) to see if recordings will be used in the class.

Ruth Bork is a long-time member of Havurat Shalom who grew up with Yiddish music a constant presence in her home.

Foundry Is Coming to Davis Square, Somerville

A new restaurant, lounge, and theater is coming to the Davis Square neighborhood of Somerville, moving into the space vacated by a home goods store.

Based on information from one poster on our Twitter page and another on the Chowhound site, a sign is up at the old Bowl & Board location on Elm Street for Foundry, which, according to Grub Street Boston, is going to be an American brasserie with a speakeasy lounge and a theater that will handle everything from comedy shows to music to children's theater. Foundry, which will be run by the same person behind The Independent and Precinct Bar (both in Somerville's Union Square), is expected to feature a raw bar, more than 30 beers on tap, and 100 bottles of wine from which to choose.

Right now, it appears that Foundry may open sometime in the late summer or fall.

The address for this upcoming restaurant, lounge, and theater will be: Foundry, 255 Elm Street, Somerville, MA, 02144.

Today's Eversave deal is for 1/2 off one TRX Suspension class at a gym in Revere. I've been aware of and interested in trying this exercise method (uses an anchored webbing strap and body weight), but to buy the home gear was too pricey (nearly $200) for me to bite.

So I've done the Eversave deal to try this, and am wondering if anyone here knows of other gyms or trainers in this area that offer it, like maybe you folks who run outdoor bootcamp classes?

So, the long-awaited Turkish restaurant in the ever-changing location on Holland Street (has been an ice cream place, Holland Street Cafe, among other things) is OPEN and it looks great. Very cheerful with Turkish rugs and other decorations.
In good news also, they are the reincarnation of the great Turkish restaurant that used to be on Beacon Hill (in a basement space on Bowdoin Street) - I never ended up going there, but I worked in the neighborhood and it was well-loved. The menu now is a little smaller, but my co-worker bought a selection of their Turkish "tapas" today and they were all excellent! I stopped in today and they were very friendly and excited to be in Somerville.

So, do stop by and if you do, tell them Karin and Laura from across the street sent you :)

PS: They also have agreed to represent Turkey at my fun charity event Taste of the World, which I hope you'll attend! http://tasteoftheworld.eventbrite.com for more info, or become a fan at www.facebook.com/taste.of.the.world

As you probably know, each month, SAC uses the CVS window in Davis Square to showcase local art. Following the success of this project, we want to give our "gallery" a make-over. To begin the process, we need a new name for the window.

What we are looking for:
A name that is short, catchy and fun that indicates the nature of the gallery space.

The winner of the contest will receive a fabulous SAC Swag bag and recognition in our newsletter. Deadline for submissions is June 30.

Gallery Mission:
The CVS Window is a unique space that allows the public to view an eclectic array of works from artists and local organizations each month. It is the goal of the Somerville Arts Council to showcase the cultural diversity that community has to offer.

Would you like to curate a show or be a participating artist? )

For more information about the contest and participation contact:
