Does anyone have a good local or semi-local resource for painting wooden kitchen cabinets? I have all the doors and hardware off and could drop them at a paint shop. I'll probably paint the boxes (on the kitchen walls) myself, but would definitely consider paying someone more skilled.

My husband and I are looking to purchase our first condo/home sometime this summer.  We currently rent close to Davis and would like to stay in the area.

I am looking for any recommendations on realtors who are very familiar with the area and would be patient and helpful for 1st time home buyers. We are signed up for a few info seminars on home buying through my husband's job but I would love to work with someone in the area who is really familiar with Davis, Teele, Ball, Union Squares.  I searched through the tags and didn't see anything recent posts like this so I hope there maybe a few people with recent experience that have recommendations!

Thank you!

I have two nice hats, both fedora-esque (one pictured in the icon) that through moves and general lack of attention are dusty, misshapen and abused. I would like to get them steamed into shape and cleaned properly. Does anyone have a recommendation? I don't know if this is an obvious thing that drycleaners do, or I need to find some kind of haberdasher?

Thanks!

Salutations!

I'm a new-ish home owner near Davis Square. My place has a partially-finished basement. I'd love to use it for an office or space bedroom, but I question the legality of the work that was done by the previous owners.

Now that we're in that magical tax return season, I want to turn that basement space into legal, livable area. The only problem is that I don't really know of any good Somerville-based (or Somerville-knowledgable) contractors. Ideally, someone who can work to get the place up to code, install necessary safety exits, check the wiring/plumbing, etc., all while working with the city to keep construction work to a minimum.

So I'm coming to you Davis Square LJ folks for guidance. Is there anyone here who's had this kind of work done to their satisfaction? Or is there anyone here who's used a skilled contractor to add a room, bathroom, etc. that's worth recommending?

Thanks in advance!
