i went to mr. crepe tonight to pick up some dinner. the verdict? pretty tasty fillings with a crisp yet pliant crepe, but not as tasty as the paris creperie.

i really like how bright and clean it is in there- the woman who took my order was also very friendly and welcoming. it also seems as though the tea and coffee selection is fairly large to appease those who would just like to lounge and people watch.

I can't wait to try it. I never got to go to Mr. Crepe in it's old location.

I had lunch there today and it was really good. I never really liked the Someday all that much (when I went there, I always felt--or was made to feel--like I was barging in to someone's dirty living room uninvited) and I missed Mr. Crepe, so it wasn't going to take a lot to impress me, but the crepe I had this afternoon was pretty awesome.

It was quite busy there today for lunch - it would appear that the crepe business draws more customers in there than the coffee crowd, though I must admit the coffee I got there was very good just the same.

Huh? I'm probably no happier than you are about the displacement of the Someday, but I don't see any basis for calling him a "racist violent liar".

The violent part may no be based in fact, now that I go back and read the Google group for the Someday Cafe (I was remembering this thread (http://groups.google.com/group/somedaycommunity/browse_thread/thread/8a97ddb31637165a/8c2deb9797322ed9#8c2deb9797322ed9), but I stand by my comment that he is racist and a liar.

Defending the dissolution of relationship with a former partner, he wrote (here (http://groups.google.com/group/somedaycommunity/browse_thread/thread/c129f0b2296f51ef/bd08b8660a34ac1e#bd08b8660a34ac1e)): "Redha is Algerian. These people typically support on another,
something I don't regard as a bad thing. It sort of patriotic.
However, any person who is algerian that I knew and that knew Redha
thinks very little of him." this wasn't the only time he saw fit to mention the race of someone, as if it made any sort of difference.

As for being a liar, he DEFINITELY lied when the whole Someday close down was going on. He (and Fraiman) led folks to believe that he would back off from the space if someone could help him find another location. He never had any intention of doing that.

My goodness. Those are awfully nasty things to publish about a person.

We went last night. It definitely wants a little breaking in, but I imagine we'll be there a couple nights a week. Yum!

My favorite crepe from there was swiss cheese with a few dashes of green tabasco. Simple. Delicious. Haven't been to the new incarnation but I eagerly look forward to it!

I had lunch there, and it was tasty. But at 2pm, which is pretty late for lunch, it was hard to get a seat. I don't think it's because there were a lot of people, but because there are relatively few tables. They should take one wall and make it a bunch of 2-person tables, instead of having everything being a 4-top.

As a business owner (of Magpie) I can say that this is exactly the kind of feedback I would love to hear from customers. :) You should let them know this if you haven't already.

I'll be right there by Mr. Crepe tomorrow afternoon. Have to try it for lunch!

What kind of business is Magpie?

Magpie is a great little boutique shop on Highland. They have gifts, shirts, cards, knicknacks, oddities, magnets, other fun stuff. They are very fun. They have a website: http://magpie-store.com/

(and I first heard about Magpie on the Davis LJ too, which shows how local LJs can be a great tool for local business owners to meet their communities)

Paris Creperie (http://www.paris-creperie.com/).

For what it's worth, when it opened, the only time we went there, we were violently ill afterwards. Maybe it was an aberration (I hope it was!), but I haven't yet been back.

Wet Saturday at 11am. Busy. Some people leaving because not enough seats. Very warm inside (77F) which can be uncomfortable for some. Some kids running around which gave the place a family air. They need more (new) kids' chairs.

The plain coffee was pretty good but there was no cream on the condiment table only milk. Splenda was available! Specialty coffee drinks were fine although I'm not a fan of coffee in a glass.

Ordering was a little haphazard as there is no menu board (yet?) and one had to share the laminated menus at the counter with the order taker hurrying you along. Get that blackboard up, Mr. Crepe!

Crepes were good, pretty much the same as in the old place on Holland. From the time the order went in, coffee was made on the spot and there was about a ten minute wait for the crepes.

They need some more tables especially for one or two. All the tables had four chairs mostly occupied by, um, one or two people.
The place is clean and modern if somewhat stark and pretty loud.
As they are only open a week, I'm sure things will get better as the get the hang of things.

So Mr. Crepe, more tables, a menu board and chill on the heat.

I just checked it out, got a Nutella and Banana crepe, maybe i'm cheap but 6 dollars seems very pricy.

While I agree that the sweet crepes might be on the expensive side, I find the savory crepes well priced and I totally enjoyed mine. PLUS, the staff was super nice and I agree with [livejournal.com profile] midorionna that the artistic decor was generally pretty cool.
