Hey all,

Anyone know of a local business that brings sick virus-stricken PCs back to life? Anyone have any first-hand experience with any of them or have ya driven by or heard of any local computer repair shops that do this? (This is for a PC, not a Mac.)

Thanks!

Hello folks,

I just got an Acer Aspire 4530 with windows the 32 bit Vista Home Premium installed. I am interested in upgrading to 64 bit Vista Home Premium.
Windows states that I am eligible to upgrade but need to find an install and install it with my purchase code. Can anyone local help me find an install disk? I live about 15 minutes from Davis Square and any help would be great.

Thank You,

Fish

I've finally decided to get my laptop fixed, so who can you recommend for fixing a almost 6-year-old laptop (IBM T40) with a 'fan error'? I've heard good things about Microcenter...any corroborating stories? Any other suggestions? Thanks!

T-accessible is nice, but not 100% necessary (as in Microcenter is a little far, but not impossible).

Does anyone know of a place in the area that can do hard drive recovery, other than Microcenter or Best Buy (which I'm already looking into)? I've been doing some looking online, but my hard drive is clicking, and a lot of places seem to say they won't deal with that.

Alternatively, does anyone in the area have an Archos Gmini MP3 player, and could lend me the charger for a bit? I used mine as my backup hard drive, but I lost the charger and the battery is presently dead.

Edit: Thank you all for advice and suggestions. I've found a charger for the Archos, and I'm going to try a couple more at-home efforts with the hard drive, involving different boards, the assistance of a kind LJ neighbor, and possibly this fun-sounding freezing option, and chalk it up to a loss if they don't work. Who knew clean rooms were so expensive? ;)

It would seem that the AC adapter to my Dell Inspiron 600m has died an untimely death.

Is there anywhere that I can swing by tomorrow in the general Boston area that would have one for me to buy? Or, short of that, does anyone have one that I might be able to buy off of you or borrow?

Does anyone have a monitor calibration setup (spyder, eye-one, huey, etc.) that they'd be willing to lend for a day or two. I'm planning on buying something Real Soon Now, but would love to try out the options and see how big a difference it makes. If you do, please let me know by email at wallaceStreet {at} rutile {dot} yi {dot} org, or by posting here.

Thanks!

    Hey, I just wanted to say hey after joining this community, I moved to the Davis Square area about a year ago, and I've really just recently started exploring the area.

    Also wanted to give a thank you post to Peter from AngelTronics, he fixed up my laptop at a great price recently. :D

I'm looking for someone to take over my lame as some might put it web site and do something exciting with it. We are a small two person business in Davis Sq. I'm from Somerville and still live here many years later. We need an overhaul on this site and it needs to be supported often with updates as well as properly marketed. I'm open to suggestions as I know some have already started to even recently. I need help with it as I dont have the time, I'm too busy fixing notebooks, Laptops , Desktops and getting some of you Satellite tv for free. Yes I even climb the roof for a select few. So if you are capable of doing a great job on a bad website call us or stop by better still and I'll buy the coffee while we discuss whats happening next. The more creative the more I like it, with a nickname like KraazyPete that goes back to Southern Junior High you can guess I dont think outside the box, I dont believe in Boxes at all. I'll gladly pay for the effort, call us the number on the lame site.

Does anyone know of any businesses in the area that sell Dell accessories. We are looking for a 90W Adapter and have had no luck at Radio Shack or Staples.

A storefront in the Harvard Vanguard building on Holland Street, which used to contain a cellphone store, now appears to contain some sort of computer-related business. Signs advertise computer repair and computer training courses, but the place doesn't really look open yet. Some of the signs refer to ntai.net (Network Technology Academy Inc.), whose website looks less than fully professional. Anyone know more?

I have a G4- about one year old. The cd/dvd drive sounds like a monster. It will not accept a disk but repeatedly (as in every 3 seconds) tries to accept one. Sounds like chewing metal. I was told by the genius bar at the Mac store it would cost about $700 because there is a slight dent on the keyboard casing which suggests I may have been responsible for the broken drive, thus making my AppleCare useless for this. I also inquired with Tekserve in NYC and they suggested about $400. I'm wondering if anyone knows anything more local and less expensive. I'd really like to have this disk drive replaced asap. Thanks!

So my new best friend has informed me that I need one small part of my laptop soldered to another part. I bet soldering results in smoke. And smoke looks kinda like steam. And I do adore activities that result in steamy-ish atmospheres.

Pique my interest as you take apart the laptop. Let us consider it a metaphor for the undressing of our inhibitions and/or clothing. Make me moan as you delicately remove that keyboard so good. Just don't break the keyboard. Then I'll have to get all dominatrix on your ass and, thus, injure (perhaps singe?) your delicate bottom.

If you have excellent coordination & know how to solder, then, yes, I'm hitting on you. Also, I might be hitting on you, Dear Reader, even if you lack one or both of the aforementioned traits.

+++

At any rate, I need advice on a computer place and/or person that solders PC shizt back together. In, you know, the Davis Square-ish area.

+++

I also am looking for a patron and/or sugar mamma and/or daddy to pay off my grad school debt and/or buy me a new laptop. I always put out, mkay?

I'm willing, ready, & able to bring my computer and my self to any location you designate for steamy-ish soldering type activities. The only question is, your place or mine?

+++

Really, though, people, I'd appreciate advice. And a demonstration of your deft manual skills.
