......has been in rare form recently. Not the one who asks "Pardon me sir, can you spare any change?" in a weird monotone, but the one who "sells" the Spare Change newsletter. I saw him suckering a few college-age looking girls the Saturday before last. By the time I got down to the platform, they were angrily chatting with each other, one of them with a fresh Boston Now! in her hand. This morning, he was doing his usual rounds, with a lit cigarette. Classy. I think it sucks that this guy does his thing, ripping people off every day, and that he hasn't been banned from the Davis Square Red Line, or any of the others.

I'm just curious to see if anyone knows what's up with Hip Hopz Clothing & Apparel (yup, they sell both) on the corner of Highland & Lowell.

I live right across the street and I don't think I've EVER seen them open.  Not that I'm looking to build a funky new wardrobe, but I can't help but wonder what's up.

Hello all--

I'm doing a bit of research and I need to know something.

Are there any places in the Boston area where you can donate hair for wigs for either cancer victims or alopecia (sp?) victims?

Before we plan the next event, I'd like to get input about where we go from here. I think its fair that Orleans be the next location because they were third. But, in a more general sense, we should figure out whether we should expand the event to more people and have a greater pool of locations.

I sort of feel that there are maybe only 2 or 3 bars in Davis Square itself that would be a suitable location for us. If we keep hitting the same bars again and again, we might be imposing on the generosity of bar owners. Alternatively, we can expand the pool of bars or have the event less frequently. Also, I'd like your input about expanding the event to people from [livejournal.com profile] b0st0n.

Edit: I'll count the results as "official" at noon on Friday.

I just moved to the Davis Square area not too long ago, and I've been looking to join a gym. I checked out Boston Sports Club but their rates are a whole lot more than I want to pay. Can anyone recommend me something in the area that is cheaper, even if it's not as nice? I don't have a car so walking accessibility is a must. Thanks!

So there's a ton of yoga places around here but what's a good one within walking distance of Davis Sqr. preferably towards Teele Sqr. that has a regular yoga class around 7PM or latter (cult free preferred)?

What are good places to get running shoes and bikes around here that are open at night?

Sorry for the meet-up spam, but this is news that needs another post.

The Burren has graciously agreed to be our "home base" for a social meet-up every other month. As those who attended the first [livejournal.com profile] davis_square event can attest, the setup at the Burren worked perfectly and the back room was awesome. It looks like we will be back at the Burren in April.

This will allow us to have our events at a new location one month, followed by returning "home" the next month.

The Burren loves [livejournal.com profile] davis_square and [livejournal.com profile] davis_square loves the Burren.

I'm wicked excited about this!

local milk

In the past few months there have been several threads on this community about local milk and/or milk delivery. It has been pointed out that Crescent Ridge Dairy delivers local milk to towns all around Somerville but not to Somerville itself (see their delivery map which conspicuously omits our entire beloved town from existence).

I emailed Crescent Ridge a while back to ask about the chances of them adding a Somerville delivery, and got back a typically wishy-washy answer from a sales-type person (you know, "we are always considering new opportunities" or something vague like that).

I also did a little looking into other options for acquiring locally-produced milk in the area, and found that:
* Shaw Farm milk is sold at Kickass Cupcakes. However, since most of my shopping would be done with kids in tow, it just isn't feasible to be going into a cupcake store on a regular basis. ;) Also, it's inefficient for me to have to buy four quarts when I want a gallon.
* Shaw Farm milk is also sold at Wilson Farm in Lexington. This is a bit far for me to justify going on a regular basis just for milk.
* Shaw Farm's website does not list Kickass Cupcakes on its list of stores that sell its products, which leads me to wonder where else it might be available that isn't on the website.
* I heard a rumor that Dave's Fresh Pasta carried local milk, but this turns out to be incorrect (at least according to the somewhat confused person behind the counter there this evening).
* I also heard a rumor that McKinnon's Meat Market in Davis Square carried local milk, but have not investigated this yet since I'm a vegetarian and the place intimidates me.
* You can also get Crescent Ridge milk at Whole Foods, which is an okay option but still not really convenient for me (and again only available in quarts, at least at the Central Square location).
* Hood delivers, but the milk is not necessarily local and (from what I can see) is factory-produced.

Anyway, with the foregoing in mind, my questions to you are:
* Do you know of anywhere else in the immediate Davis Square area where locally-produced milk can be purchased?
* Do you know of any other establishment, besides Crescent Ridge and Hood, that delivers milk to Somerville?
and finally,
* Would you be interested in signing up for regular milk deliveries from Crescent Ridge if they added Somerville to their delivery area? I was thinking that it might work better if a bunch of us banded together to approach them saying "here are x people representing y gallons per week who really want to give you their money." If you would be interested in that, please post here (or email me at this username at gmail) and let me know.

Thanks everyone! Now let the flaming begin. :)

I would like to try and see the lunar eclipse tonight. Any ideas where I can go near by...I dont mind driving a little bit if necessary. I just drove home from Burlington and it was clear skies! I hope it stays that way.

This is just a very positive review I wanted to post up. I got the recommendation from this community to see Dr. Cook for a dentist. I called last May to get in and it took me till recent months to finally get in. On Monday which was a holiday I developed a severe infection in my wisdom tooth that has been fully grown in for years now. I ended up at the ER crying because the pain was so bad at 3am. I called the emergency line for Dr. Cook at 745am and he had me come right down. When I arrived he felt terrible for me and in fact told me had I called the previous day (presidents day and they were closed) he would have come in to help me. I NEVER expected a dentist to tell me that. He also didnt charge me for the visit only a $25 x-ray because I dont have dental insurance.

I just wanted people to know he is worth the wait. He is honestly the nicest dentist Ive ever met and he does great work.
