In case the owners or friends read here:

A friend who lives on Cedar St. (around #350) reported on his Facebook status that around 11:45pm tonight (Sat.) he saw out his window a pit bull-type puppy running around the street trailing a leash, so apparently run away from the owner. There was some stuff I won't go into about the first cop who tried to pick the dog up in his car but didn't control the dog (who was a bouncy puppy, not trying to attack anyone)... but the last word was another police vehicle did come and get the dog, hopefully to go to animal control.

Hello all,

I'm looking to buy the most expensive, badass snow shovel made in New England. Any tips?

If you look at it and think, "THIS IS NOT YOUR MAMA'S SNOW SHOVEL" then you're probably on the right track.

I recall a question from last winter re: trash pick-up and snow emergencies, but I can't remember the definitive answer, and all I could find was this entry with one vote of "no, won't happen" and one vote of "yes, will happen."

My trash pick-up is normally Monday morning, the question is (apologies to baseball, corn, and Kevin Costner)...if I leave it, will they come?

ETA Must remember to check 311 before LJ in cases like this:
Yes, there is trash pick-up tomorrow if it's your normal day.

I'd like to buy a sled today for some preschool-aged kids I know. It doesn't have to be fancy - your basic plastic model with handles or grips is just fine. So far I've checked with Stellabella, Tags, Shaw's, and Target, and no one has them. Well, Tags and Shaws has these weird rolled-up plastic "sheets," that I guess you can sled on, but that's really not what I'm going for.

Has anyone seen or bought sleds around here recently? I do have a car, although I'm sure driving will be an adventure today. :)

Anyone have any fun stories about trolleys getting stuck in the snow or crazy naked people running around in Santa hats? Any photos? Please share!

Warning to drivers new to the area:  If you decide to switch to  public transportion for several days because of the storm, you still need to dig out your car.  It is illegal to park a car in the same place on the street in Somerville for more than 48 hours straight.  The city cannot easily enforce this rule most of the time, but the pile of snow with a car buried beneath it 2 days after the storm has ended makes this pretty obvious.  Violators are subject to towing, not just fines.

I'd expect that enforcement doesn't happen on Sundays & Holidays, but I don't know how those affect the time limit.

Does anyone know where I can get a map of the Illuminations Walking Tour that happened on the 13th? I know that I can get the trolley tour maps at Magpie and Blue Cloud Gallery, but I would love to have the walking tour locations, too.

Thanks!

Ok, I apologize for echoing the post about snow and trash pick ups, but is there anyone with a clear yes or no answer about whether trash is removed during snow emergencies? I'm a (fairly) new resident, but it seems unlikely that the trash could possibly be removed when a 4 foot snow barrier is blocking the sidewalk...but then again, the trash crews are pretty hardcore..

We'd like to be able to use our car without fear of losing our parking space.  This is such a pain.

I have been cat-sitting for a friend's cats for the past few months. I can't keep them at my house any longer. My friend can't take them. He'd hoped to be able to after an anticipated move, and it seems like that's not going to work out. So they need a new home.

I know there are services that will take your name/address off junk mail lists, but does anyone know if there's a way of not getting the bundle of ads and coupons and whatnot that come every Thursday?

Answered, thanks! Apparently you can unsubscribe by filling out the "Have you seen me?" missing kid postcard, which also cleverly has unsubscribing information on it.
