While we're on the subject of Ball Square businesses, a few updates I thought might interest DSLJ folks:
1) DSLJ favorite rec
Paramount Bicycle Repair has moved to Ball Square (from Powderhouse). The new location is in the small strip of stores extending up Bristol Rd (also includes Stinky's, a dry cleaner, a cleaning service, maybe something else?) and seems nice.
Tyler says "spread the word!" about the move, and I'm sure he'd be glad to have people stop by and say hi.
2) The former Urban Gourmet space has signs up advertising help wanted for what will presumably be the new restaurant opening there.
The signs refer to "
Eat at Jumbo's: pizza, wings, and grill"
I guess it's meant to be associated with Tufts in some way . . .
(In case anyone is interested in the jobs and you can't read it in the image, it says to email info@eatatjumbos.com or call 617-571-3611.)
( pic of sign= ) Personally, I'm a little disappointed, as this really doesn't seem all that different than stuff we already have (On Broadway/Soundbites Grill specifically), I had hoped for a little more variety. I
am glad to see
something going in there though, after so long with an empty storefront, and I shall hope for the best! (with vegetarian options, plz ;)
3) Speaking of empty storefronts, the space on Broadway next to White Hen, most recently a real estate office (I think once a CVS?) which has been empty for a little while is displaying building permits indicating it is being converted to a dance studio.
I know nothing else, just what it says on the permit, but I'm excited to see the space filled and this seems like it could be a neat addition to the neighborhood.
ETA: a large banner now says "The New Home of Mary Flynn Murphy Dance Studio" and says it will open March 2nd.4) The Pub (formerly Powderhouse Pub, i.e. the one next to Kelly's. Really, it's just called "The Pub" now.) is now hosting Stump Trivia on Wednesday nights. This is in addition to Soundbites hosting Stump on Mondays (which I assume they are still doing, though I haven't checked, as they are listed on the
Stump site).
(hmm, no "Ball Square" tag? would it make sense to have one?)
