Today is the last day to register to vote for the December 8 special US Senate primary. City and town election departments will be open until 8 pm tonight to accept registrations.

Somerville - City Hall basement, 93 Highland Ave
Cambridge - 51 Inman Street (not City Hall!)

If you have moved and do not change your registration by today, you will need to travel back to your old precinct to vote on December 8.

I think I have a broken circuit breaker -- as in, I can't get it to reset/switch back to ON, which is about as much fiddling I think is SAFE to do with something like a breaker panel. (Can you say "Oh, hell, no!"?)

Does anybody have a recommendation for a local electrician who would be willing to come out for a piddly call like replacing a breaker (if indeed that's the problem)?

(I looked in the list of tags and didn't see one that looked appropriate for this aside from home repair, sorry! Please tag it as appropriate, and I'll remember it for next time.)

The film Antichrist left the Kendall before I had a chance to see it.

I went to moviefone.com at this link and entered 02144 and it pops up Somerville Theatre as showing the film.

But this listing of the Somerville Theatre's website makes no mention of it.

I called the Somerville Theatre but the automated recording made no mention of Antichrist.

So is Moviefone just wrong? Or is the movie coming to Somerville and moviefone was the first to update their web listings.

Join us for services followed by a potluck, dairy/vegetarian Shabbat lunch. There will also be a children’s service at 11:30 a.m. Services at Havurat Shalom are egalitarian, lay-led and usually involve a lot of singing. The potluck is truly pot luck - no arranging of the dishes in advance. The meal is a good time to meet people and we welcome newcomers.

Does anyone here see Dr. Juan Perez of Atlantic Health Care on Holland Ave.? Or Dr. Aurilio Manto? I've been a patient there for a couple years and like him and his practice, but today I'm trying to call and the number is disconnected. I talked to a receptionist at the Harvard Vanguard in the same building (to see if they take walk-in, which they don't) and they told me that over the past month they've been getting a lot of patients from Atlantic Health's office.

Anyone know anything about that office? Did it fold (without sending out notice to their patients?!?).

Relatedly, I guess I now need to find a walk-in clinic that doesn't suck, since apparently I don't actually have a doctor anymore. Recommendations for walk-ins?

Sign Installation Begins Nov. 16; Warnings Issued Starting December 21; No Tickets to Be Written until after New Year’s Weekend; Citywide Connect CTY Calls Scheduled for Nov. 15, Dec. 19, Jan. 2

[Please note that this message is designed to provide responses to questions raised in an earlier thread]

SOMERVILLE - Acting Director of Traffic and Parking James Kotzuba announced on November 12th that changes to the City's permit parking rules will become fully effective on Monday, January 4, 2010. Contractors will begin installing new signs on affected streets during the week of November 16th, and Parking Control Officers (PCOs) will follow up the sign installation by placing multilingual flyers on all vehicles parked on affected streets. PCOs will begin issuing warnings (with no fines) on December 21st, but will not issue actual violations of the new rules until January 4th. Beginning on Sunday, Nov. 15th, the City's Communications Department will make three separate citywide reminder calls using the connect CTY mass notification system.

The new regulations, which extend permit parking to the remaining one third of Somerville streets that were unregulated, had originally been set by a May 21st vote of the City's Traffic Commission to go into effect on August 1st. Implementation was delayed for five months in order to make additional modifications to the city's parking policies based on recommendations from the Parking Solutions Task Force - an advisory body of residents, business leaders, and public officials appointed by the mayor - and from the public.

My awesome friend Mike's band, MSB (well, full disclosure: not HIS band, he's just in it.), is playing at Johnny D's Friday night and I highly recommend checking them out!

ExpandThis is the description from their Facebook page )

And personally, I can't stand John Mayer and I still like them, so don't let that deter you!

It's a $10 cover and starts at 9. I think MSB goes on last, but the other bands seem pretty cool, too, so give them some love! I'm almost positive I'll be there at some point, if I can wrest myself away from the bumpin' 90s jams DJ [livejournal.com profile] phatmike is dropping at the Common Ground, so if you see me, come say "Hi, I'm from the internets."

I walked along the abandoned railroad right-of-way and around some of the MaxPak property this afternoon. Here's what I saw:
  • all of the steel rails and wooden ties have been removed between Cedar Street and the Lowell Street bridge.

  • a new, rather flimsy-looking chain link fence now blocks off the abandoned right-of-way just west of the Lowell Street bridge, so you can no longer wander onto the active Lowell Line. It looks like the tracks and ties remain in place east of this fence.

  • there's a new chain-link fence gate across the right-of-way just east of Cedar Street. It was open when I began my tour but closed when I finished. It doesn't stop anyone from wandering onto the right-of-way from the adjoining Faulkner Bros. or Royal White properties.

  • Another new fence blocks access to the right-of-way from the 90-degree turn of Warwick Street. You can't walk around this fence.

  • they've just started to pour gravel onto the right-of-way in order to turn it into a temporary haul road for trucks

  • the word DEMO is spraypainted in several places along the exterior walls of MaxPak

  • three new attached townhouses are already under construction at Clyde and Murdock streets.

I came across this completely randomly:

http://www.wickedlocal.com/somerville/news/x501037560

It's a list (plus a link to a downloadable spreadsheet) of city employees making over $50,000 in 2007, including their actual salaries and pay breakdowns (e.g., how much overtime pay vs base salary). It's fascinating.

The "author" is GateHouse News Service, whoever that is, and the date on the article is April 2008.

I don't recall seeing this posted on LJ at any point. If it was already discussed, I'll delete this post. Enjoy.
