Shobu Aikido Demonstration & Open Dojo

Shobu Aikido's open dojo week kicks off tomorrow night with a demonstration and sake tasting. Doors open at 7:30pm and the demonstration starts at 8. It's a great chance to check out what aikido is all about and drink some free sake on us.

We're then hosting a week of free classes (from Saturday 9/27 through Saturday 10/4) open to members of the community ages 15 and up. No uniform is required, but we recommend workout clothing with short sleeves and pants that cover the knees.

Class schedule is as follows (and is also available on the website):

Saturday 10:00-11:30am
Sunday 9:00-10:00am sword class, 10:00am-12 regular class
Monday-Thursday, 6:30-8:00pm

The dojo is located at 34 Allen Street, Somerville (Union Square). There is free parking both in front of the dojo and across the street, a safe place for bikes, and we are also accessible by public transportation. Nearby bus routes include the 86, 87, 91, and CT2.

Looking to borrow weird machinery/devices for video shoot

Dear people who have weird stuff. We are shooting a video this weekend that is set in an evil laboratory, so we're looking to dress the set with anything we can find that looks vaguely sciencey or techy. Think any kind of object that has dials, buttons, meters, screens, cables, switches etc. Old A/V gear, old computers, etc can work for this. This stuff does not actually have to work or be in good shape. If you have anything that fits the bill and would be willing to let us borrow it for the weekend, please comment here or email Brandy@bostoncircusguild.com  Additionally, we're also looking for actual lab ware, ie strange glass ware, Bunsen burners, stands, etc. Again, does not have to be functional. All things will only be borrowed temporarily, well taken care of, and dutifully returned. Thanks in advance!

Hooking up Flat Screen

We received an outrageously high quote from a major chain store to hang our flat screen TV on wall and hook up remote control in closet behind TV.  (we want to hide cord and cable box) Our electrical work is already done.  (plug on wall behind tv and plug in closet behind TV for cable box)
Does anyone know of someone (independent or small business) in our community that could do this work?  Could not find anything tagged on this.

Expensive temporary art exhibit coming to Citizens Bank building

A lot of people were busy tonight transforming the office of Velir, on the first floor of the Citizens Bank building, into a temporary art exhibit called Consenses. (Not a typo - actually spelled that way.)

Anyone know more about it? To visit this exhibit, you have to buy a ticket for $25, which seems pricey for this neighborhood. It opens on Friday and will be there for two weeks.
