Hi everyone,

I mistakenly scheduled the next Knit & Sip Crochet Soiree on Super Bowl Sunday (yes, I am a native New Englander, and yes...that was exceptionally silly of me) and am RESCHEDULING.  The next one will take place Feb 12th at the Nave Gallery from 2-6.

Before you dismiss this as another lame attempt at getting people to join a club, read on!

Do you like to:
-Meet tons of co-ed young adults?
-Get a sweet, free t-shirt?
-Burn tons of calories by playing a typical school yard game?
-Drink at a local Somerville bar in your sweatpants! I repeat, DRINKING IN YOUR SWEATPANTS.

If that doesn't convince you, we have just completed our very first season, complete with:
-Weekly costume themes
-Alcoholic prizes
-Newsletters that included pictures of Tom Selleck, Kevin Federline and a pantsless lady holding a monkey (among others)
-Flip cup and beers a plenty

Our AWESOME winter season begins on February 16 at the Argenziano School in Union Sq.!

Originally posted by [livejournal.com profile] mimigraney at Holiday Office Party for those Without an Office (or a Party)

What do all the freelancers, home office folks, and super small businesses do for the holidays? Chances are, with no co-workers to party with, there's little holiday cheer for you. Don't just dress up your dog, come party with us!

If you're in an office of 1 or 2, or if you have no formal office at all, come to this lunch-time gathering to celebrate the end of the year with other area small business owners. This event is open to tiny office and office- less workers from all neighborhoods. Pass the word!

Event is Friday, December 16 at 1 pm in Union Square, Somerville.

Complete cost for lunch is $15.

Bring along a Secret Santa gift to exchange (valued at $5 or less) that represents your business to network and spread holiday cheer at the same time. Could be a mug or a keychain with your logo. Or if you're a graphic designer, maybe bring greeting cards with an image you created.  If you're a carpenter, maybe bring a hammer. Be creative!

The event location is in Union Square, Somerville. Restaurant details will be sent to all those registered before the event.

If you are one of the non-profit hordes of greater Boston (or would like to be!) and your New Years Resolution is to do more networking, here's a great way to start 2012 on the right foot. This is rescheduled from November 15th, which was cancelled due to illness.

RSVP required at http://www.tugboat23january.eventbrite.com

Some details:
*Are you a non-profit professional or are you interested in meeting people in the industry?
*Do you work in a smaller organization and want to network (or just share stories) with your colleagues?
*Are you looking for the chance to meet like-minded non-profit folks in a laid-back environment?

Please join Tugboat 23 at a networking event geared towards employees or volunteers at smaller or grassroots nonprofits. We'll be at Orleans in Davis Square from 5:30 to 7:30 PM on Monday, January 9th.

Free hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar, and some door prizes to keep things fun. Your $5 suggested donation will go 100% to Massachusetts Farmers Markets.

I like to share contacts and best practices - but not germs. And I've got a wretched case of the flu :(

Thanks to everyone for their interest, and I'm already speaking with the nice folks at Orleans about a makeup date. It definitely seems like people are interested in this sort of event.

Stay healthy!

...so, I'm wondering if there would be any interest in starting a group to work through Julia Cameron's "The Artist's Way" (12-week course in developing higher creativity) together. For $0.

I'm starting the book again - for the 3rd time - and just thought that it makes sense to work with a group. I'll offer to coordinate if there are others in the Davis area interested in meeting up and going through it week by week. Figured we could meet at a mutually convenient place in or near Davis...

eh?

Hi all,
I recently started Tugboat 23 Consulting, which helps grassroots nonprofits with fundraising and specifically with special events. I run events from start to finish, or I handle the dirty work tasks that no one wants to do, such as silent auctions, volunteer recruitment/management, or day-of-event coordination. No task is too small – if you are running an event and need help, please contact me.

Since I enjoy getting people together, I decided it would make sense to host a networking night for my fellow non-profit colleagues. Hope you can make it!

Hello, this is a little bit of self-promotion but I think it will be of interest to this community.

On Sunday August 28th at 2pm Boston By Foot will be offering a 90 minute walking tour of Davis Square. The tour will explore the neighborhood's history and architecture starting from the plaza across from Somerville Theatre and circling around the square.

I'll be one of the guides so I'd love to see a good turnout. I'm sure many locals from Davis Square will have interesting stories to share as well.

For more information please visit the Boston By Foot website at http://www.bostonbyfoot.org/tours/Davis_Square.

So today was my last chemo! Huzzah! So, a few related questions:

1. Anyone have any connections that could be helpful to getting discounted/free appetizers at a bar for a group of 15-20 young adult cancer survivors on a somewhat regular basis? I'm the co-chair of the Boston Chapter of i[2]y which is an org for people diagnosed between 15-40 and I've been seriously slacking at organizing a Stupid Cancer Pub Crawl. Ideally would be close to the red line, have space for a small group, and feel bad for us so they give us things for free. :P Cancer is expensive and I'm poor, what can I say? Alternatively, if you are another young adult cancer survivor and would like to be involved in a cool organization with people who get it, let me know!

2. So, what's left of my hair is in this really weird half grown state. I cut it down to about an inch when it started falling out and now, 3 months later, it's thinned significantly and I have hair anywhere from barely sprouted to a shaggy 2+ inches. It also sticks straight up Sonic the Hedgehog style. I always had my hair long and want to grow it long again, so I'm at a loss of what to do with it. Anyone have a salon/stylist suggestion for someone who is adept at short hair styles on women, as well as helping style and cut growing out hair, and not look like a crazy mullet?

3. Only semi related, but feel bad for me, I just went through 6 months of chemo. :P I'm looking for a desk that is smaller than the one I currently have for my desktop. I don't really care what it is as long as it will hold my monitor and keyboard. The one I have now is too big in my very small room, so I'd like to move it back to the kitchen to be used as a shelf. Does anyone happen to be getting rid of one for Sept 1?  I can take away anything that will fit in my Civic. Thanks!

The Davis Square yogurt co-op is having an open house and potluck on Thursday. My housemates and I have really enjoyed eating (and learning to make) the yogurt since we joined a couple months ago -- come check it out:

You are invited to the Somerville Yogurt Making Coop open house and potluck. Come to the Clarendon Hill Church at 155 Powderhouse Blvd. in Somerville on Thursday, June 2 to learn how to make yogurt and share food with other yogurt makers. The potluck will begin at 6:30pm and yogurt making will begin around 7:30pm. The Church is located a few blocks from Teele Sq. on the #87, #88, and #89 bus lines. Are there any P&P RPG or board gaming groups looking for new blood? I am quite fond of both, and as Pandemonium Books seems a little slow at the moment I thought I'd start looking close to home. Anybody need a new player?

Last night as my partner and I were once again having dinner in an almost empty SoundBites, we were saying how it might be fun to have a DS_LJ dinner & drinks meet-up there. I can't recall if we've ever had a sit-down meal meet-up, but it could possibility be a fun one-time variation and folks could talk more easily since it's quiet. And there's certainly space. I met the new (or maybe just new to me, I'm not sure) dinner host last night and he was incredibly nice.

I don't have a date in mind. We just thought it would be good to bounce the idea off the comm to see if there's interest. What do you think, meet-uppers?
